One of my superpowers is that I can read the language of energy. I can see and feel how the energy of different concepts and interactions work. This often leads me into an exploration of how we use language to express what we experience in the unseeable realms. Recently, I was exploring alternate meanings of and looking into the origins of how we use the word momentum and became curious about the Latin use of the suffix um. I found that it is the dative case plural ending of a noun—a person or thing receiving the indirect action of a verb.
Moment is a noun. Its meaning is a very brief but indefinite period of time. When this indefinite amount of time [moment] creates an indirect action or reaction from what occurred at this moment, it builds momentum—a continuation of or multiplication of this, created through action in some form. This action can occur either proactively or reactively, but unless there is action (movement) there is no momentum.
Newton's First Law of Motion states that an object in motion will stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. This force, therefore, slows the speed, stopping it or sending it moving in the opposite direction. He continues to expand this idea throughout the second and third laws of motion. It is not that far-fetched to imagine then, that thought in motion or energy in motion may have similar properties and behaviors.
Now, let's look at the Law of Attraction. There is much debate around the origin and scientific buy-in of this universal law which states like energy attracts like energy. Its use is most closely tied to spiritual belief and practice while dipping in and out of the world of quantum physics exploration. Those who have experienced this phenomenon in their favor, and utilized it in their lives advocate and share it widely and with excitement. It also attracts many skeptics who claim that there is no scientific evidence because it has not yet been replicated in a lab—a controlled environment—at least not to the degree that qualifies it for a general stamp of approval.
Here's what I believe; take it or leave it. I believe that we are fast approaching a time where our current scientific equipment is reaching its limits because where we are traveling is into the realms only reached by the power of our minds. Our physical bodies and even our technology have limits, but our imagination and soul systems do not.
There is evidence of this in our dreams and how children play. We see and feel energy respond, and we, in turn, respond to it all the time, yet we have learned not to trust what we can't see feel, hear, touch, taste, or smell with our physical bodies. There was a time when walking on the moon was not understood to be possible as a collective reality. Some have now done it, not many, but through their experience, we can each Imagine now that it is possible. Someone dreamt it possible before it was ever so in a physical way. This dream, along with the celebration of it which led to intentional action towards it, is what changed it in our reality collectively.
Why would it not be the same then with what we can dream, feel, imagine and explore through the power of our imagination? Human innovation is fueled and empowered by the imagination; it always has been. Many of our biggest scientific breakthroughs have actually come through mistakes—someone playing with an idea and brave enough to explore it before they had any proof of concept, and often before any others could see, feel, or know what they alone could access in the darkness of the not yet discovered.
We generally celebrate visionaries only after they've found ways to prove their visions in widely accepted ways. Until then, we often label them as mad, crazy, or eccentric. What if we allowed for more play and imagination? What if we allowed for our most heartfelt, soul-guided visions to build momentum and grow into embodied versions—accessible to us in physical form?
When I was an art teacher, one of the parents of two of my students made me the most beautiful gift. It is my most cherished gift (in physical form) that I received throughout my time as a teacher. It is a stuffed version of a monster drawn by her (maybe four-year-old at the time) son. His name is Booger.
Booger has traveled with me for about 15 years at this point. I love him. He reminds me of the power of imagination. A young boy dreamed of a monster named Booger and drew him with a green crayon. His mother saw the beauty of this vision and the playful spirit contained within this expression of it. It captured not only the spirit of Booger but of her young son and the essence of his soul.
She then transformed this expression into a 3-dimensional form and added in her own playful essence expressed as she created it from fabric and buttons and love. She appreciated what she saw and felt even though it only existed in physical form as a two-dimensional drawing at the time and in the joy that she experienced in her son as he created it and in herself as she observed it.
She gave this recreation as a gift because she knew that I too understood and appreciated the magic that was contained in the imagination of her son and the expression of it in his artwork. I don't know if she could have imagined at that moment that I would still have Booger with me so many years later, or that I would feature him here in this expression of how I see and understand what lives in the world of my own imagination so many years after leaving my career in art education. I'm sure if she had imagined it, she likely would have also brushed it off as a whimsical or silly thought; who knows.
This is what momentum looks like in physical form—a manifestation of energy embodied first as a drawing (re·action), then transformed (pro·action) into a stuffed 3D version, and brought to life with the power of storytelling (moment·um). Who knows how this will continue to grow and inspire others to keep dreaming? I hope it never dies, but instead lives on empowering others to allow their moments of inspiration and imagination to flow as easily as this child did when he sat down with a green crayon and a piece of copy paper and thought what do I want to draw today?
The Law of Attraction is empowered by the energy of celebration. Joy and gratitude fuel the momentum of our dreams into reality. What dreams are you celebrating today? How are you creating them? I invite you to put them in motion through intentional action, celebrate them, and watch them grow.
