Recent studies suggest that people who work fewer than 40 hours per week tend to be happier. They have more time for hobbies, exercise, and meals with their families. The 4-Day Week Global organization collaborated with Cambridge University, University Dublin, and Boston College to investigate the impact of a four-day workweek on employees and companies.
The survey involved 900 employees from 33 companies. Was it a good idea? Apparently so. The results showed that the happier the employees, the higher the company's profits. After the study was completed, everyone wanted to stick with the new model. Dr. Jonathan H. Westover, a management and leadership consultant and the chair of the University of Utah Valley's Department of organizational leadership, said, "By giving employees an extra day off, they can feel more energized and motivated to get their work done in four days in the office."
When employees have an extra day off, they tend to work more efficiently and are highly motivated. Companies reported up to a 38% increase in profits compared to the previous year.
This survey was also conducted in the UK, and 15% of the 3,000 workers who provided feedback stated that they would not return to the five-day workweek, even for extra money.
This research demonstrates that it is possible to function with a workweek of fewer than 40 hours while maintaining a positive attitude toward work. It is important to emphasize the need to maintain high levels of mental and physical health and creativity in problem-solving. Are there any downsides to this process?
As always, it depends on the people. If employees lack independence and cannot plan their work, real problems may arise. The lack of planning and time management can increase stress. How can this be prevented?
One solution is to provide three months of training in time management and work planning. This will prepare the team for the change, and in the fourth month, a gradual change in working hours can be introduced. A happy and friendly working environment leads to higher profits. Therefore, it is worth exploring and giving employees a chance for a better life while also increasing productivity for the company. If the implementation process is difficult, it is worth seeking professional support, such as time management and planning training from KasiaSpeak.com.
