Pride is considered one of the 7 deadly sins.
From the youngest of ages, we are taught that the excessive belief in one’s abilities is an immoral act.
When my mature, adult, think-for-herself self knows that being overly humble is equally shameful, wrong and unjust.
Not sold? Neither was I, at the beginning.
All it took was the smallest of reframes.
To move from being proud of what you do, to instead being proud of who you are.
Go from boasting that “I won a competition”.
To being proud that “I am a hardworking, resilient and dedicated individual” and this leads to my success in competitions.
It is serving absolutely nobody to say “Oh I just got lucky” and as such I am successful in competitions.
Well actually, it is serving the people who are not able to feel proud of themselves.
Because in staying humble you indeed are choosing to honor them ‒ instead of yourself.
When what the world needs more of is leaders and examples of proud individuals.
Those who know they deserve to be recognized.
Those who recognize themselves.
It’s hard to do this elegantly on a public stage.
Don’t feel that you need to shout your new found inner Rihanna from the rooftops.
She doesn’t say that she’s confident, she simply IS confident.
She doesn’t say that she’s proud of herself, she simply IS proud of herself.
Recognize yourself to yourself, and you’ll slowly being to see that your closest friends, colleagues, acquaintances and random strangers will begin to recognize you too.
Feel this is something you need to do and don’t know how to get started? Begin with my simple & easy Pride Journal template
