New year, new goals, right? Did you know, however, that your sense of self-worth directly impacts how successful you’ll be in reaching said goals?
What does your self-worth have to do with you reaching your goals, you ask? It has just about everything to do with it!
If you don’t believe you’re worthy of something, then you will self-sabotage by holding yourself back from taking the action required to achieve it.
If you don’t believe you’re worthy of your desires and it somehow manages to show up in your life, then you are still highly likely to sabotage yourself because your unworthiness will make you feel like, "it’s wrong to have what you want" thereby causing you to reject it no matter how much you may consciously want it.
In my years of being an entrepreneur and coaching people, I’ve realized that the two things that people need to successfully achieve any desire are SELF-BELIEF and a high level of SELF-WORTH.
In today’s article, I’m going to break down how a poor sense of self-worth can keep you from being successful in 3 key areas of your life: Your Income/Salary, Relationships, and Health.
INCOME/SALARY
If you want to increase your income, get a pay raise or even get a better job, then I highly encourage you to work on your sense of self-worth, STAT!
Recent studies have shown that many women hold themselves back from applying for jobs they want simply because they don’t meet all of the requirements listed for the job position whereas men are more likely to still apply even if they have far fewer qualifications than women.
What is this saying about self-worth?
In this example it’s saying that women hold themselves back from applying for and receiving the job positions, salaries, benefits, etc., that they desire simply because they've judged themselves as being unqualified (which is another word for unworthy in this case) of what they want.
The belief that’s playing out in the minds of these women is “I am only worthy when I have met all of these requirements and expectations.”
The men who are underqualified but are still applying anyway, are men that believe “I am worthy of the opportunity, the income, the job position regardless of my qualifications” which allows for them to go for it anyway and not self-sabotage like women.
Are you beginning to see how important working on your self-worth is when it comes to successfully increasing your income or salary?
RELATIONSHIPS
Has finding your soulmate(s) been a long-time desire of yours but you’ve ended up with one unfulfilling partner after another instead?
These may have been partners who invalidated you, took advantage of you, took you for granted, disrespected you, and maybe even mistreated you in different ways.
This may not be easy to hear, but a person who TRULY knows their worth does NOT put up with people who display this type of behavior towards them.
I speak from experience because I had to learn the hard way.
This means then that, until you do the level of self-worth work required to no longer tolerate these kinds of behaviors from others, you will unintentionally keep yourself in these kinds of relationship dynamics.
Owning our self-worth happens in stages and one of the first stages is owning your self-worth enough to remove people who are not good for your life.
However, maybe you’ve evolved from the version of you that used to put up with such romantic partners and now you know exactly what kind of a person you want and deserve and have been patiently waiting for them to show up in your life with no one remotely in sight.
That’s another stage of owning your self-worth.
At this level, you’re required to go beyond your intellectual understanding of your worthiness and truly DEEPLY BELIEVE and KNOW on a somatic level that you’re deserving of the kind of relationship you desire.
It’s a deeper embodiment of your worthiness that allows you to radiate that outward which then makes it possible for you to synchronistically line up with your soulmate(s).
So if you’ve felt challenged with attracting your soulmate even after doing certain levels of self-worth work, then a greater embodiment of your worth might be the next step in your journey to finally align with “the one.”
HEALTH
When it comes to health, you wouldn’t have guessed it, but self-worth work has EVERYTHING to do with whether a person will be able to make and successfully maintain positive changes to their diet and lifestyle to remain in great health or not.
As a former health coach, I could speak and educate people on the benefits of certain foods, maintaining a certain lifestyle, how to read food labels, etc.
But if the person didn’t have a solid sense of self-worth, they would eventually find themselves back to their old habits and ways which only put them on a path to have health struggles if they didn’t suffer from them already.
A person who doesn’t have a solid sense of self-worth looks at the diet and lifestyle changes as “work.” It’s things they feel “they have to do” to achieve a certain outcome.
Whereas the person who has a solid sense of self-worth looks at diet and lifestyle changes as something natural and even effortless for them to do.
Their inner dialogue is “I love, appreciate and value myself highly so, of course, I nourish myself with good foods. Of course, I do physical activity to keep myself strong. Of course, I stay away from habits that would take a toll on my health and well-being.”
So if you’ve struggled with making and maintaining positive diet and lifestyle shifts, working on your self-worth might be the thing that helps you break free from the cycle of self-sabotage.
CONCLUSION
I hope that this article provided you with a deeper understanding of the importance of working on your self-worth for all areas of your life to thrive and prosper.
And I’m sure by now you’re thinking “yes, but how do I do this self-worth work?”
There are many ways you can go about addressing issues connected to your self-worth such as going to see a therapist, working with a healer to do shadow work or inner child healing, mirror work, journaling, etc.
Every person’s journey is going to unfold differently from the next, but what I recommend as a spiritual guide is that you set the intention that the right guide, mentor, healer, therapist, etc be brought to you to support you with your journey of strengthening your sense of self-worth.
Allow Spirit then to bring you the people and resources that are appropriate and relevant for your journey at this time and go from there.
