A very warm hello! Are you creative? An ideas person in business, the arts, technology, or any other human endeavor? If so, inspiration will be interesting subject matter to you, even life-changing subject matter that leads to a fulfilled life for yourself and others, and the many people it will affect long after its inception.

Man in a white T-shirt gazes at a misty mountain landscape under a cloudy sky, creating a serene and contemplative mood.

Look at the works of any great inventor or artist for confirmation of how important inspiration can be to future generations.

This article deals not just with "good or mediocre" inspiration, but "great" inspiration, the type that is remembered as classic or unforgettable.

Want to be great and not just mediocre? Read on.

Artists

Ask any artist in history about inspiration, and you’ll get a long, shuddering sigh!

But this sigh will be twofold: the sigh of "Oh no, all those months of 'nothing,' thinking I would never, ever create anything of worth again, the emptiness, the upset, the self-doubt!"And the sigh of "Ah yes, I remember the beautiful inspiration that flooded me before and as I painted that famous picture or wrote that classic melody, the exultation, the oneness with life, the simplicity with which I created with such wonderful ease!"

The same attitude might be observed in any creative field where inspiration is necessary for truly wonderful creations.

The eternal questions

  • What is inspiration?

  • Where does inspiration come from?

  • How can I receive inspiration?

What is inspiration?

It seems to come when it comes. It cannot be forced, threatened, or purchased! This is something every creator, whether in business, the arts, or any other creative endeavor, would love to "know."

Let’s look closer at this!

As in earlier articles, we start with the question:

Is it physical, mental, or spiritual in nature?

Physical

Is inspiration itself physical? Probably not, as you can't buy it or make it as you might a physical object. Although its final manifestation is almost always physical, via sound, sight, or touch!

Mental

What do we mean by mental? Is it creatable by "thinking it" into existence or analyzing it into being there? Ask any creative person how he progressed by "thinking inspiration" into his life, and you’ll probably get the answer that the inspiration was good but not great. He’ll tell you that the "really great inspiration" came when he was not thinking, it just appeared!

Note: Decisions are not made by the mind but via the mind. They are made by the spirit or soul only, and that is why they can continue to exist long after the body/brain has ceased to exist in the physical realm. This is evidenced by the fact that we can find an almost infinite number of decisions still extant from past lives, affecting the present.

Spiritual

So it seems that, by process of elimination, we are left with "inspiration being spiritual in nature."Inspiration arrives to the person (spirit) as thoughts or ideas, so you might say the mind created them. But in truth, they only enter by means of the mind.

The person holding the pen or brush, or sitting in front of the computer, we can assume, is a spirit using a body and a mind to interact with the physical universe. The spirit receives inspiration and uses the body and mind to turn this inspiration into something the five senses of self, another, or others can experience.

Where does inspiration come from?

Mozart and Salieri

Being 'good' or 'bad', or ethical or not, seems to have no bearing upon inspiration's choice of whom it manifests for and when.

The most obvious example would be as portrayed in the film Amadeus, where Salieri is being 'as good in the eyes of God' as he can be, not indulging in women or alcohol, trying to keep his mind clean of bad thoughts, etc., and yet not receiving inspiration as readily as Mozart, who is portrayed as dirty-minded and unfaithful, and yet receives possibly the most highly praised inspiration and music ever created!

Whether the film is accurate or not, as an example of how "inspiration occurs," it is useful and does follow the laws of inspiration and how it manifests.

But what is happening here?

One of the 'real reasons' why Mozart had more inspiration was:

Mozart was less serious and more playful than Salieri!

Lightness and a playful mindset, more often than not, allow wonderful inspiration to flow, because in reality, 'Spirit' is not serious and heavy, as some would have you believe, but light and playful in nature.

Mozart also considered it his 'duty' to create beautiful music (a strong spiritual decision), not only for God but for people in general. His decision was to create wonderful melodies that could be remembered on first listen, forever!

So we see how strong decision can eventually create the flow of inspiration!

Very very important difference

Trying to create inspiration with the mind in the present (forcing it) is NOT the same as the decision that "At some time in the future wonderful inspiration will appear" (but not forcing it into appearing now). This is such an important difference, please read it over and over, many times, until you really get it!

Back to Mozart and Salieri.

Salieri, on the other hand, WAITED for God to give it to him. He didn’t decide to create it for himself, and the result was less inspiration. So, an assumption that it is "God-given only" can confuse matters, as we WAIT for it to be bestowed upon us! This takes the "power to create it" away from us, and we feel the negative effects of inspiration.

Let us look at this in even more detail:

The derivation of inspiration

The derivation of the word says:c. 1300, "immediate influence of God or a god."Latin inspirare: "blow into, breathe upon," figuratively "inspire, excite, inflame."

For thousands of years, the idea of "inspiration" has been considered by some as "God-given only," which leaves us WAITING to be blessed.

I am not religious but spiritual, and I don’t wish to comment on religious matters, although the derivation, to some degree, addresses the reason for this thinking on the subject.

Divine intervention

There is undoubtedly Divine Inspiration, but there is ALSO the truth that the Universe gives you what you decide it will give you! The idea of free will enters here, and that God helps those who help themselves, from Ancient Greece.

How can I receive inspiration?

Decision

By making strong decisions and trusting that they shall manifest when ready! Pause a moment and consider this, because the most powerful ability a spirit has is their decision!

A spirit only loses when they doubt themselves, or they make negative decisions that nullify the positive ones.

Example

Someone says, "I made a strong decision a few days/weeks/months ago, but nothing has happened yet! Oh, this is nonsense, I’ll never have great inspiration."

Arhhhhh, look what they just did: they created a counter-decision that nullified the positive one!

So make a strong decision, and know and trust that when the time is right, it will suddenly appear. This is the way to do it! Don’t continually stress about it; just decide strongly and let it manifest in its own time.

I am also a composer and needed a beautiful melody for an aria I was writing. It took two months to manifest after the decision, and it came, of all times, when I was driving. So, always keep a recording device or pen and paper handy for when it hits you suddenly.

Even in the middle of the night, it can come. Well, get out of bed and record it or write it down! You must not say, "I’ll remember it in the morning." no, get it into the physical universe as soon as possible when it arrives!

I hope I’ve illustrated the point.

If you don’t wish to accept this, that’s ok. Some people will continue to say that inspiration is ONLY God-given or a blessing upon the person.

This idea can still be active from earlier lives, especially where religion was involved. But this leaves them "waiting" for that elated moment.

Time

Now, you might ask, "How long after my 'strong decision' will I get the result of that decision?" Great question, and the answer is: "It will arrive when it's ready."

It could be days, weeks, or months, or in extreme cases, years, but it will come, as long as you don’t get frustrated by waiting and say something negative to yourself like, "Oh, this is rubbish, it will never come," because that will kill it dead!

As mentioned before, you just made a "counter decision," didn’t you?

Trust in your ability to make decisions that come true, and get on with your life, and one day, when you least expect it, Wow, it will arrive! The more you use this technique, the more you will trust its power.

Types of decision

By the way, never say, "I will have a nice melody or idea." Say instead, "I will have a beautiful, breathtaking melody, or world-changing idea, one that is up there with 'The Greats'."

If you can’t do this and believe it will come true, then the "reason you cannot" must also be addressed by looking at and clearing up your past personally.

Messing about

After making your strong decisions, you, of course, must continue to create in your chosen field (you can’t just wait) because life goes on.

But something I found very useful is messing about playfully with an idea or on an instrument, as though you are just having fun (hopefully you will be), and see if anything comes out of it!

This itself can open the flow of inspiration and takes away the heaviness of having to create something of worth by forcing it.

If you can’t get into this playful frame of mind, you need to focus on how to get into this state of mind, maybe a long walk, or some sort of class that relieves stress, or go for a sauna, a country drive, listen to classical music, or whatever relaxes you, etc.

Apart from a strong decision, is there anything else we can do?

Accumulated upset

Throughout life, and also previous lives (I presume you believe in the possibility of them), the upset accumulated on this subject of "inspiration" is immense and carried from lifetime to lifetime as "heavy Spiritual Baggage" that affects creativity in this and future lives.

Triggered

As you try to create and force inspiration, it can, and often does, trigger past life failures in the area of creativity and inspiration, making you feel suppressed and unable to create freely in this life.

Removal of this "baggage" frees up inspiration to a marked degree in this life, and your decisions will manifest quicker, I have found. Past trauma can, and does, affect present creativity massively.

Past lives where you "failed creatively" become traumas you carry with you into later lives.

Hieronymus Quimp, Business/Personal Spiritual Life Changer

From a very early age, feeling there was more to the world and universe than was currently being taught in the schools and universities, a path was decided upon to search for and uncover the 'hidden truths' that lay at the core of life, the spiritual being the blueprint for the physical universe.

This took an immense amount of spiritual research undertaken on an individual basis.

A lifetime of searching and discovery, of these basic underlying truths, is being powerfully used now to change, help and guide others.
