Have you ever felt like there’s a part of you that no one gets to see or a part that wants to hide to feel safe?
Others may see us differently than how we see ourselves. We may not know what we don’t know about ourselves that makes us feel this way.
How can we focus on the part of us that may be hidden if we don’t believe it’s okay to take the time to get to know who we truly want to be?
Our lifestyles can be so incredibly demanding for many of us. “The proportion of dual-earner married couples more than doubled between 1960 and 2000, increasing from 25 percent to 60 percent” (Pew Research Center, 2015). Now, another 20+ years later, so many of us are busier than ever before and express the lack of time for self-responsibility along with more intense pressure to fulfill the “have-to” family and financial responsibilities.
So, when you look in the mirror, who do you see?
Do you see multiple faces representing who you may think others expect us to be or do you see one person?
It always seems easier to self-sacrifice when something has to be done. Placing ourselves at the bottom of our ‘to-do’ list consistently over time can hide the best part of us so deep it’s hard to find.
By allowing ourselves to discover the person we want to be, we can choose the self-focus necessary to live, love, and laugh every day through the good and the bad, through the happy and sad, with total control over how we care for both our mental and physical well-being.
“Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle.” ‒ Christian D. Larson
