Taylor Brandstetter, Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist

What drove Taylor into the field of hypnotherapy? Becoming a hypnotherapist seemed natural and became a breath of fresh air for me. Hypnotherapy aligns perfectly with my passion for helping people achieve lasting positive transformations. I recognized that the subconscious mind held the key to ingrained beliefs, habits, and thought patterns, often hindering personal growth. I found it highly captivating to discover the power of the mind, especially considering that the conscious mind represents only 5% of the brain. Exploring the mind's inner workings and realizing its ability to create and heal genuinely fascinated me.

My therapy experience and understanding of the subconscious mind inspired me to utilize hypnotherapy to guide others toward healing and self-empowerment. My personal healing journey taught me the significance of providing a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore their traumas, fears, and aspirations. Through my positive transformation, I recognized the potential for positive change in others. I felt a calling to guide them toward healing and self-improvement. What is Hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is a type of therapy that uses relaxation and focused attention to help individuals enter a trance-like state, during which they are more open to suggestion and can explore and address various mental, physical, and emotional issues, such as anxiety, phobias, or behavioral changes. During hypnotherapy, the conscious mind takes a back seat while the subconscious mind is the main focus. Hypnotherapy is a gentle approach to guide clients to harness their subconscious mind to bring about transformative changes. It aims to promote positive changes in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors by tapping into the power of suggestion and imagination. Are you asleep during the session? No, you are not asleep during the session; you go into a hypnotic state. A hypnotic state, also known as a trance state, is a focused and relaxed state of consciousness that individuals can enter with the guidance of the hypnotherapist. It is a natural and altered state of awareness between being fully awake and asleep. In this state, a person's attention becomes highly concentrated, and their subconscious mind becomes more accessible, while their conscious mind becomes distracted. Can everyone be hypnotized? Yes, everyone can be hypnotized. Everyone slips into a hypnotic state daily, whether you realize it or not. These are just some examples similar to hypnosis that involve altered states of consciousness and focused attention:

  • Sometimes, while driving on a long road and sometimes you do not consciously remember getting from point A to point B, your mind can enter a trance-like state during the familiar route while you are driving.

  • You can quickly go into a hypnotic state while focusing entirely on a book or movie. You can be so focused and immersed in the material that it puts you in a trance-like state.

  • Daydreaming is another example of daily experiences in a hypnotic state. While you daydream, your mind wanders off into memories and imaginative thoughts. During this time, you are slipping into a hypnotic state.

  • When you are lost in thought and lose track of time, and what is happening around you, this is a form of an everyday hypnotic trance.

Adjoining with going into daily hypnotic states throughout the day, some people are more physically suggestible, some might be more emotionally suggestible, and some are split 50/50.

During the consultation with my clients, I have them fill out some paperwork, and one of the pages is a suggestibility questionnaire. This allows me to find their suggestibility and tailor and craft their sessions so that they will respond best to creating profound changes. What are the common misconceptions people have about hypnotherapy? People unfamiliar with this field tend to already have a misconstrued view of hypnotherapy based on shows they may have watched and how it has been portrayed in certain movies. Some people might be apprehensive about hypnotherapy because they might think the hypnotherapist will control them during the session, making them say and do embarrassing things and learn their deepest, darkest secrets. I am here to tell you that is the furthest from the truth. Hypnotherapists are simply a guide through your journey with your hypnotherapy sessions. They help induce the hypnotic state so clients can harness their subconscious mind to bring positive changes. During the hypnotic state, one has more control over their mind and body than in a conscious state.

During the session, the hypnotherapist uses positive suggestions and affirmations that the client's subconscious mind can accept or reject independently. It is solely up to the client's determination and will if they want this positive transformation to occur.
