Ukrainian vodkas have replaced spirits from Russian in many countries and are enjoying a surge in international sales, reports BBC News.
Ukrainian vodka Nemiroff is now selling across the world in what its CEO claims is a show of “solidarity with Ukraine”.
In 2021, Nemiroff was listed in a report by The Spirits Business as the sixth best selling vodka in the world. The number one spot was held by Smirnoff, the Diageo-owned brand. Despite its name, Smirnoff isn’t a Russian brand and its owner was quick to point this out as shops starting removing Russian vodkas from their shelves after the country’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. The brands being replaced included Pyat Ozer; Russian Standard; Beluga Noble and Zyr.
Nemiroff has continued to produce despite having to close its main distillery for a month and continued power cuts. Despite these issues, the company told BBC News that it is exporting more bottles than ever and has seen sales double in the UK alone. "It's heartwarming to see people supporting our country through their purchasing decisions," says CEO Yuriy Sorochynskiy.
According to Grand View Research, the global vodka market size was valued at USD 35.9 billion in 2021 and is expected to expand at a CAGR of 5.5 percent to 2028.
