The COVID-19 Pandemic brought significant changes in the way the world utilizes technology. These advancements enable people to connect all over the world with others in ways never before accessible. COVID-19 also increased people's dependence on and usage of the internet, along with their demand for digital services.

Historically, to find a movement coach, the process could take quite a bit of time and money. You needed to visit multiple studios, trying out instructors until you found one that resonated with you.

Now, you can find a digital movement coach to help you transform your life, all from the comfort of your electronic device in 5 easy steps.

Step 1: Set goals for what you want

Sit down and think about what you want to get out of a movement practice. Write down every goal you have. Think big! Do not limit yourself in this brainstorming session. Arrange your goals in order of importance to you, putting the most crucial at the top. Organizing your goals is a valuable step in directing your search.

Examples of goals could be:

  • Develop a better relationship with your body

  • Build strength and or flexibility

  • Decrease pain, stress, anxiety, tension, depression, etc.

  • Increase your quality of life

  • Have more fun

  • Lose weight

Step 2: Search hashtags (#) based on your goals

Search hashtags that align with your goals. Hashtags enable people to connect with common goals and ideas through social media platforms. Type in a hashtag you want to explore. View posts that display with that term. Repeat with different hashtags that align with your top health goals.

As you search through posts you find interesting, look at what other hashtags the creator uses. Watch for new phrases or ideas that inspire you.

Examples of hashtags (#) to search:

  • mind-body connection

  • intuitive movement

  • movement heals

  • weight loss

Step 3: Do a deep-dive search on 5 or 6 people

Pick 5 or 6 people whose content matches your goals. Dig deeper into who they are and what they offer. Search out their older posts and see if their methodology fits with your goals.

Things to look for:

  • Where are they located? Make sure they are in a time zone that works with your schedule.

  • Does the coach offer movement options at the level you need? If they are a coach who only provides advanced options, and you are beginning, they may not be the best option for you.

  • Do their posts align with your goals? If you want to build a better relationship with your body, and most of their posts are about “perfection”, they may not be the best for you.

  • Search for reviews. Look and see what others are saying about working with that person. Are the reviews positive? Was the coach able to help the reviewers meet their goals?

  • Look for Pricing. Are their prices easy to find? If not, be aware that they may be a higher-pressure sales person. Are their prices something you are willing and able to pay?

Pro Tip! Having more followers on social media does not necessarily mean someone is better for you. It may mean that they have not been discovered yet, which may work to your advantage!

Step 4: Narrow down to 2 choices

Pick your top 2 choices to call and interview. Write a list of questions to ask based on your goals. Reach out and make contact with each of your top choices. Ask how the coach will help you with your objective. See how they respond. Notice if you feel supported and understood.

Pro Tip! If you feel at all uncomfortable, unheard, or even not quite right, listen to your gut feelings! Go with someone you feel comfortable with, even if you cannot explain why.

Step 5: Work with your coach digitally to transform your life

Choose your top pick and work with them. Utilize the increased accessibility and transformation of digital platforms to connect with your movement coach.

Commit to your movement practice, yourself, and your purpose. Invest money in you and your goals. Pick a frequency of working with your movement coach that feels doable and attainable. Believe in your goals and stick with your plan!

Before long, you should start noticing a transformation happening in your life!
