In today's world, the Lightworker, Witch, and Healer navigate life's complexities with a blend of ancient wisdom and modern insights. Self-care, setting boundaries, and living an empowered life are not just nice ideas or trends; they are essential practices that ground us in our true power and affect every area of our lives for the better. Let’s peek behind the curtain and look into how these elements can transform your life from mundane to magical.
Embracing self-care: Nourishing body, mind, and spirit
Self-care is more than the occasional bubble bath, pedicure or day off work. It's about creating a sustainable practice that nurtures every aspect of your being and building an unshakable relationship with yourself that is filling your own cup daily.
Physically, this means taking steps to nurture and care for your vessel. Feeding your body with whole, nourishing foods, drinking pure untainted water, paying attention to the messages your body gives you through pain and illness, then taking steps to release that trapped energy and heal. A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can significantly boost your energy levels and overall well-being. Complement this with intentional regular physical activities like yoga, dancing, or a brisk walk in nature to keep your body strong and your energy flowing, which is absolutely essential for Witches, Healers and Light Workers
Prioritising sleep and downtime is crucial. Create a bedtime ritual that signals to your body it’s time to wind down—dim the lights, give yourself at least 30 minutes of screen-free time, engage in relaxing activities like reading or meditation and even diffuse calming essential oils whilst playing relaxing music. One seemingly small thing that actually makes a huge difference when it comes to self-care AND your sense of self-worth, is setting a bedtime and sticking to it!!
This is a hell of a lot harder than you'd expect and those of us with People Pleasing tendencies and a strong Caretaker archetype will struggle greatly. There is always going to be something someone needs or a phone call, SMS, friend in crisis, perceived deadline or some other distraction… that requires you to stay up “just a bit longer”. However, something magical happens when you put your foot down and stick to the boundary… After you teach your subconscious mind that nothing is going to sway you and that you are serious about this, suddenly the distractions and excuses disappear! Your Reticular Activating System stops finding reasons to sway you and you start to trust yourself. Before you know it, you wont even need to set alarms or think about your routine anymore. It will become automatic and your body will take the lead. This works in other areas of your life too as you form new habits and create new neural pathways.
Mental clarity is equally important. Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine through practices like meditation, breathwork, and journaling. These activities can help clear mental clutter and foster a deeper connection with your inner self, building self-awareness and initiating healing. Engaging in creative activities, such as painting, writing, or crafting, not only enhances mental agility but also provides a valuable emotional outlet.
Spiritually, develop daily or weekly rituals that align with your beliefs. Light a candle and set intentions, create an altar space dedicated to honouring yourself, your dreams and your roots, or perform small acts of magick. Spend time in nature to recharge your spiritual batteries. Walk barefoot on the earth, hug a tree, or simply sit in silence and observe the natural world around you.
Cultivating self-awareness: Tuning into your inner world
Self-awareness is the foundation of a fulfilling life. It involves paying attention to your feelings, understanding your needs, and being mindful of your self-talk. Regular emotional check-ins can be incredibly insightful. Notice when you feel resentful, overwhelmed, or uncomfortable—these feelings often signal that a boundary has been crossed or a need is unmet. Listening to your needs is crucial. Pay attention to what your body and mind are telling you. If you're feeling drained, it might be time to rest. If you're feeling uninspired, perhaps you need a new creative outlet or a change in routine. Getting out of your comfort zone and mixing things up is not only great for inspiration but its essential for growth. In nature, something is either growing or dying.
Be conscious of how you talk to yourself. Replace negative, self-limiting thoughts with positive affirmations. Treat yourself with the same kindness and respect you would offer a close friend. This practice can profoundly impact your self-esteem and overall outlook on life. Catch yourself when you say or think something unkind or unhelpful to yourself and say “I neutralise that!” This will neutralise the energy of the words so it does not manifest or reinforce harmful things in your life. Then ask “What would I rather believe instead?”
Setting boundaries: Protecting your energy and empowering yourself
Boundaries are essential for maintaining your energy and protecting your well-being. They define what is acceptable in your interactions with others and allow you to stay true to yourself. You also need to set and keep boundaries for yourself. This is something many people forget. Reflect on your values, needs, and limits to identify your boundaries. Understand what drains you and what energises you. This self-awareness is the foundation for setting effective boundaries. Ask yourself, “If I could have it my way, what would I no longer accept and what would be my non-negotiables?” Then ask yourself what is stopping you from making that your reality? What is the worst that could happen if you did? What is the worst that can happen if you don't?
When communicating your boundaries, be honest and straightforward. Use "I" statements to convey your needs without placing blame. For example, "I need some quiet time after work to recharge." Consistency in enforcing your boundaries is key. This helps others understand that you are serious about your limits and teaches them to respect your needs. People will not like it when you first start saying no and it will be hard at first. I promise that it does get easier though.
Remember, when someone tries to make you out to be the “bad guy” for having boundaries and putting yourself first, it is a reflection of them, not you. It shows that they do not respect you and feel a sense of entitlement. Do not reward this behaviour by giving in! It will only make it harder for you and reinforce that unhealthy relationship, showing that if they throw a tantrum, treat you worse and hurt you, you will give in. Remember, we teach people how to treat us!
Respect your own boundaries as much as you expect others to. Don’t compromise your values or well-being to please others. While it’s important to be firm, also allow for flexibility when necessary. Life is dynamic, and sometimes boundaries need to be adjusted to accommodate new circumstances. Weigh up the situation, evaluate all sides and know that it is completely acceptable to take some time before making a decision. Give a time frame that you will get back to the person in and ensure you stick to it. Following through on that will show that you mean what you say.
Keeping promises to yourself: Building trust within
One of the most empowering acts is keeping promises to yourself. It builds self-trust and reinforces your commitment to your well-being. Start with small, achievable goals that align with your values and desires. Each small victory strengthens your belief in yourself. Hold yourself accountable for your commitments. Celebrate your successes and learn from your setbacks.
Treat yourself with kindness when you stumble. Remember, growth is a journey, not a destination. If you say that you will or wont do something, however big or small, keep that promise! No excuses! Every time you break a promise to yourself, you erode your trust,
self-worth and confidence. The same goes for saying sorry unnecessarily. Just stop it! Say something else if you must but save the apologies for when you really mean it and it is justified.
Kicking ass at life: Harnessing your inner power
Empowerment is about taking control of your life and realising your full potential. It’s about embracing your strengths, acknowledging your weaknesses, and continuously striving for growth. Cultivate a growth mindset by continuously seeking knowledge and new experiences. Take up new hobbies, read extensively, and attend workshops or courses that interest you.
Work with a Coach or Mentor who has been where you are now and can help you get to where you want to be. Regularly reflect on your life and your progress. Identify areas for improvement and celebrate your achievements, no matter how small.
Living with intention and purpose is vital. Set clear, exciting goals and create a plan to achieve them. If you can easily make a plan and know exactly how to achieve it, your goal is too small! Stop settling and believing that you have to “be realistic”. Who determines what is realistic and achievable? The only thing stopping you from having it all is you! Whatever it is you dream of, go for it! If someone can do it, so can you. The only thing you need to ask yourself is “Who can help me get there?”
To bust out through your glass ceiling and reach new heights, you need to reset your internal “GPS” and reprogram your subconscious. Otherwise, you will self-sabotage and hold yourself back. This is why a Coach or mentor is necessary to truly bust through to your next level. Raven Moon Academy has Coaches who specialise in this, so get in touch. In the meantime, use affirmations, vision boards, and other manifestation techniques to keep your desires at the forefront of your mind. Integrate magickal practices into your daily life. Perform simple spells, carry protective talismans, and use herbs and crystals to enhance your energy and focus. Learn how to use these tools properly if you don't already. They truly are life-changing when done right.
Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who uplift and inspire you. Join groups, attend events, and foster relationships that contribute to your growth and well-being. Empower others by sharing your knowledge and skills. Offering support and volunteering not only help others but also reinforces your own sense of purpose and community. You have gifts and wisdom that others need. We all have something that can make a difference to someone. Just ensure that you are giving from an overflowing cup and not draining yourself dry.
And finally, one of the most important things to keep on top of is your Spiritual and Energetic Hygiene. Your energy affects everything, and everything affects your energy, so do not for one moment think that you can go through life without taking care of it and keeping it clean. You would not go weeks, months, years or a lifetime without cleaning your physical body (I hope) but I bet you neglect your energy bodies, at least a little. The grime and energetic germs you pick up every day causes illness, inflammation and pain. It influences your thoughts, feelings and behaviour, as well as that of those around you and even attracts what people refer to as “bad luck”. I have a comprehensive course on this on udemy that I would like to gift to 100 people for free. Get it here.
The path of the ‘Wise Witch’ is one of continuous self-discovery, growth, and empowerment. By deeply embracing self-care, cultivating self-awareness, setting firm boundaries, and keeping promises to yourself, you can truly kick ass at life.
