In the whirlwind of modern life, time seems to be the currency we're always running short of, especially for busy working mothers. Juggling professional and social commitments, family and community responsibilities, and personal aspirations often leaves little room for any rest, let alone the luxury of spare time. The persistent demands of our schedules can create an inescapable sense of being time-poor, where each day feels like a race against the clock. However, among the chaos, there lies the potential for a revolution – to transform from being time-poor to time-rich.

Understanding “time poor”

Most of us have heard the term time-poor, or perhaps even used it ourselves once or twice, or even more often. Being time-poor isn't just about having a jam-packed schedule; it can create a state of feeling continually overwhelmed and inadequate in the face of increasing obligations. For working mothers, this phenomenon is exacerbated by the dual roles they play – as caregivers and professionals. Striving to excel in both realms, especially for high achievers, we often leave little time for personal fulfillment and simple joys in our lives.

The consequences of being time-poor extends beyond mere inconvenience; it can lead to chronic stress, burnout, and a diminished quality of life. Constantly racing against the clock leaves little opportunity for meaningful connections, self-care, or to pursue our passions. Consequently, the balance becomes a distant dream, with time slipping away faster than it can be held.

Breaking free: Tips to being time rich

Breaking free from the constraints of time requires a conscious and multi-layered approach. Here are some tips to help busy working mothers reclaim some of their time.

1. Prioritise with purpose

Identify your core values and priorities, both personally and professionally. Reorganise your commitments to align with these values, saying 'no' to tasks or errands that don't serve your greater goals. When you shift your focus on what really truly matters, you can regain time for activities and events that bring fulfillment and joy.

2. Embrace boundaries

Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life to prevent the overlap of time between the two. Set designated blocks of time for work and home time, and honour these boundaries. It can be hard, but stick with it, in due course it will get easier. Creating spaces for both work and personal life ensures each receives the attention it deserves, and at the time it deserves.

3. Delegate and collaborate

Recognise and accept that you don't have to do it all alone. Delegate household chores, enlist support from family members or consider outsourcing tasks when feasible. Adopt a culture of collaboration at work, where tasks can be shared and responsibilities distributed among team members.

4. Master the art of time management

Invest in tools and techniques that optimise productivity and efficiency. From doing an early morning prioritising exercise with your never-ending to-do list to using time-blocking, use prioritisation frameworks and systems that work for you. This can help maximise your productivity in less time, in turn creating space for activities that replenish your energy and nurture your wellbeing.

5. Cultivate mindfulness

Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine to support present-moment awareness and reduce tension. Whether through meditation, deep breathing exercises, or mindful movement, these practices help anchor you in the here and now, encouraging a sense of spaciousness amid the chaos.

6. Reclaim self-care

Prioritise self-care as a non-negotiable aspect of your routine. Carve out time for activities that replenish your energy and nourish your well-being, whether it's exercise, hobbies, or simply resting. Remember, self-care isn't selfish – it's an essential prerequisite for showing up fully in all areas of your life.

7. Embrace time abundance

Transitioning from being time-poor to time-rich isn't just about finding more hours in the day; it's a mindset shift towards valuing and stewarding our time intentionally. By implementing these strategies and cultivating a deeper awareness of how we allocate our time, busy working mothers can embark on a journey towards greater fulfillment, balance, and abundance.

It's not about having more time; it's about making the most of the time we have, filling precious moments with presence, purpose, and meaning. Redefine your relationship with time and embrace the endless possibilities that await you on the path of being time abundance.

Reclaim precious hours in your day to focus on what truly matters – your career, your family, and most importantly, yourself. Ask yourself, are you tired of feeling constantly rushed and overwhelmed? Imagine being in control of your time. It is within your reach and it can be made easier with the support of personalized coaching specifically for busy working mothers like you.
