For many, the ability to multiply wealth, have long-lasting love, do meaningful work, and continuously achieve their many life ambitions constitutes a fulfilling life.

Did you know that having your well-being in good shape can facilitate this happen?

Taking care of our healthy mind, soul, and body goes beyond allowing us to perform our daily tasks optimally. The condition of our health also affects the state of our finances, relationships, career, and personal growth.

As the American philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote in 1860, “health is wealth.” Let’s take a look at some of the ROIs we can get from investing in our health.

Finances

When it comes to finances, it’s not just about how much money you earn and save, it’s also how much of it that you multiply.

  • Being physically healthy not only offers you capabilities to earn a living but the possibility to have one less concern and expenditure to cater for. It also allows you to do more with the resources (funds, time, energy) you have in your hands.

  • Having the ability to think critically allows you to make savvy financial decisions and even take calculated risks that are based on facts and figures (pun not intended), not solely on instinct.

  • Feeling empowered and content enables you to strive toward your life’s vision in a way that equips you to know what your financial goals are. Specifically, how much is “enough” such that you earn, spend and invest in the direction of your life’s vision.

Relationships

The more meaningful way of “keeping up with the Joneses” is having the kind of relationship that goes beyond material juxtapositions and putting up superficial facades. Building rock-solid bridges between people are deep 2-way connections, in which respect and honor are at their core.

  • Having a clear thought of the nature of the relationship you want to foster will help you choose and form bonds that add to your life, not drain you. This would enable you to channel your time and energy into growing the relationship instead of merely putting up a front and constructing imaginary bridges.

  • Feeling certain about the genuineness of your relationship creates a safe space for feelings to be truthfully, honestly, and respectfully expressed without fear, ulterior motives, or judgment enabling you to help each other through life’s high and low tides.

  • There’s no denying that nurturing relationships can be physically demanding at times. Hence, it is imperative that you’re in great shape yourself first, in order to adequately channel the extra strength needed to support someone else.

It is crucial to note that maintaining healthy relationships romantic and platonic alike is a marathon, not a sprint; and its foundation is formed by understanding and honoring each other’s boundaries.

Career

A successful vocation goes beyond doing work that purely pays for your keep. It is a purposeful duty that is carried out in a conducive environment where your talents thrive.

  • A good head on your shoulders is one that is clear about what you want to achieve in life for yourself and others. At the same time, it is also one that is open to learning and exploring new ideas. These will allow you to authentically consider your options and objectively formulate strategies to realize your aspirations, even accelerating its trajectory as you seize opportunities that may come your way.

  • Trusting your abilities to perform gives you the confidence and satisfaction to strive for better and more. This could see you furthering your career alongside pursuing personal pleasures e.g. by taking on stretch responsibilities at work, expanding your involvement in multiple communities, starting a side hustle, etc.

  • Being physically fit can give you an advantage in many professions, leading you to have more options than some. Ergo, you need to care for your body accordingly to meet the demands of your chosen ambition.

Personal growth

As we go through life picking up fresh insights from the things we experienced or are being exposed to, it’s only natural to continuously set sights on new ambitions.

  • When you think that even the sky is not the limit, you could literally achieve any dream you’ve conjured if you put your mind to it. That’s just how our brains are wired, to always discover new frontiers. It’s what pushes the human race forward. This is why we never cease to hear awe-inspiring stories that go against all odds to defy general expectations. So, go get that degree, join that competition, learn that new language, try that new sport whether you’re 8, 28, 58, or even, 108. Where there’s a will, there’s always away.

  • The human emotional capacity is so vast, that it’s truly impressive how we can experience desolation from the greatest trauma and euphoria from a meager tickle in the same lifetime. It’s just how our heart has been created to function to treat each experience as a moment to learn and grow. Practicing to use our past experiences to develop more trust in ourselves instead of allowing our minds to diminish this trust, will enable us to better discern when to take calculated risks. So, say ‘yes’ to relocating, express your feelings with boldness, and try out that new job opportunity if it makes your heart sing. You’ll be none the wiser if you don’t try.

  • Our physical capabilities give us the senses to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch to gain tangible fulfillment. When we’re physically stepping into and exploring new territories, it is the most visible expression of us pressing on. What is more, the experiences we gain from these encounters compound our growth in life in a way that is solely and uniquely our own; because no one else can have the same experiences as you have had and no one can ever take what you’ve experienced away from you. So, spread your wings and fly off to far-off places, savor new flavors, and speak to someone you’ve never met because sometimes, we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives.

Now knowing how your health can significantly support you to achieve better results in other aspects of your life, what is the first thing that you’re going to do to increase the “wealth” of your greatest asset?
