I love this saying – how you do anything is how you do everything. This quote is coined by Martha Beck, an author, and life coach. As an expert in human psychology and working with hundreds of clients, I couldn’t agree more. I coach highly successful elite coaches, consultants, and experts. They are exceptional at what they do. But contrary to what most people think, even extraordinary people have challenges. There’s always more inner work you need to do to get to the next level.
Most people attempt to solve problems at the surface level because that is what we see with our eyes.
What you can’t see is the real root cause. That is where you need to go to solve your problems effectively.
Here are a few examples:
External problem: keeping underperforming employees for way too long
Internal problem: worried about what people will think about me if I fire them (self-esteem issues), conflict avoidant, beliefs about setting boundaries and rules
External problem: undercharging
Internal problem: self-esteem and self-confidence issues, money mindset block
External problem: business is not differentiated and does not stand out
Internal problem: avoiding the real problem, scared to stand out (self-esteem issues)
External problem: same business problems continue to happen repeatedly
Internal problem: avoid facing and dealing with problems, low self-awareness
External problem: avoid working towards becoming the industry leader
Internal problem: mindset towards success and ambition, self-identity issues
External problem: attracting the wrong type of clients
Internal problem: your self-belief about who you can attract and deserve to work with
External problem: lack of innovation and failure to try out new ideas in your business
Internal problem: attachment to fear, safety, and security
If you want to solve your business problems or any type of problem in your life, look internally.
Where is this really coming from?
What core issue is this a reflection of?
What am I really avoiding here?
What type of person do I have to become in order to solve this issue?
Ultimately you need to become that person, and when you do, those external problems will get solved. Otherwise, you will keep going through the same lesson again and again until you do.
To summarize, here are the steps:
Look internally. What inner problem is causing this?
What type of person do you have to become in order to solve this?
How can you practice being that type of person?
Practice as much as possible to develop the self-identity and mindset you need
