To be, or not to be. That is the question. This is arguably one of the most famous lines from Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Although written in the 17th century, this phrase of Hamlet’s soliloquy translates to our existing world. How you may ask? It directly correlates to a growth mindset.
As we begin our journey into 2023, it provides us the opportunity to reflect and reevaluate our own capabilities and potential. It is giving ourselves permission to stop living through a lens from how others see or define us to how we see through our own.
If we all lived by how we see our own potential and abilities, what might change for us? What opportunities may we explore? How might this transform the idea of success leading to happiness to happiness leading to success? These are all questions to ponder as we rethink how we approach work, life, and relationships. Igniting the flame of our true potential will lead to unexpected outcomes. We often ask ourselves “What if I fail?”
As we shift our mindset to one that points out the potential to fail to one that has the potential to learn from our mistakes, it makes us more mentally agile and gives us the gift to learn from our mistakes. If we consistently avoid failure, we remain status quo. Status quo, although in and of itself is not negative, it may inhibit innovation, limit potential, and impede progress. “To be or not to be, that is the question?”
