Are you looking to create better TikTok videos? If so, you're in the right place! In this blog post, we will share 10 tips that will help your videos shine. By following these tips, you can create videos that are both creative and engaging. So, what are you waiting for? Let's get started!
1. Place Your Text Correctly
Sometimes your text looks fine when you're editing your video. However, once it goes live, you notice that it's blocked either by the interface or the caption.
Before you hit "publish", click on your video. (This will be right above the hashtag button when you're writing your caption). You can preview your video as it will appear live so you can make sure your text is properly placed.
2. Research Hashtags
Hashtags are important because they help people find your videos. But, you don't want to use just any hashtag.
You want to divide your hashtags into three groups:
Hashtags your audience uses to describe themselves (i.e. moms over 40, solopreneur, etc.)
Hashtags that describe what you do, or if you cannot find that, something similar to what you do (i.e. tiktok marketing, small business accountant, etc.)
Hashtags that describe the topics you cover (i.e. content marketing, skincare, etc.)
3. Use Your Phone's Text Replacement Feature
Save your hashtags into groups on your phone and use its text replacement feature to save time.
On an iPhone, go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement. On an Android phone, it is called a personal dictionary.
From there, you can create "shortcuts" for your hashtag groups so all you have to do is type a few letters, and voilà! Your hashtags will appear.
Doing this saves you time from having to look up your hashtags every time and also helps to ensure you're using a variety of hashtags (instead of just the same ones over and over).
4. Comment on Your Own Videos
The TikTok algorithm loves when there is engagement on your posts, so get your audience used to looking at the comments.
An easy way to do that is to say in your video "check out the comments to learn how I [insert something]." Your audience will get used to seeing comments on your videos and will be more inclined to chime in themselves.
5. Create an Easter egg hunt in your comments
This is another way to drive more engagement. When you have a short video, say that you'll explain more in the comments or will give a bonus tip in the comments.
Not only will it drive your engagement, but while your audience is reading that bonus material, your video is playing on loop. This means a higher completion watch time and more rewatches all signals to TikTok's algorithm that this video has a lot of value and should be shared with more people.
6. Maximize your bio
You only have 80 characters in your bio but you can include a lot in that short space. At the very least, your bio should include three things:
Who you are and who you serve
What your content is all about
A call to action what should your audience do next?
7. Send People to Instagram
This one sounds counter-intuitive, doesn't it? I mean, I am the TikTok coach, not the Instagram coach.
Hear me out and tell people to DM you on Instagram because it has an important feature that TikTok has not rolled out yet. On Instagram, you can send a clickable link to someone in a direct message, whereas on TikTok you cannot. So don't be afraid to send your audience over to your Instagram.
8. Register as a business
There are a couple of reasons that you want to register your business TikTok as a business account.
First, it shows that you are credible. Secondly, TikTok has introduced a new feature business accounts can have a link in their bios right away, instead of having to wait for 1,000 followers.
It's always a good idea to take advantage of new features when it makes sense for you because TikTok will push your content more to see how the feature is working.
9. Make your account SEO-friendly
TikTok is now Google-friendly so take advantage of that! Google can index your playlists and bio, so make sure you're including those keywords that your audience will be looking for.
Playlists are similar to story highlights on Instagram. You can name them whatever you want and they will appear on your profile. You can even rearrange the order in which they appear.
To do this, go to "Edit Profile" and scroll down to "Playlists." From there, you can add new playlists or edit existing ones.
Including keywords in your bio and playlists will help your content show up on Google under "videos".
10. Shut it down (the app, that is)
After you hit "post", the next thing you're going to do is shut down TikTok. Why?
Because you'll be playing hard to get with TikTok. As those views, likes and comments come in, you'll be getting notifications. It's hard, but ignore them!
This makes TikTok send your video out to more people, to gain more engagement to get you back on the app. So, while it's hard not to respond right away, post your video and then put it away for 12-24 hours.
