What is Synchronicity? Are there "meaningful coincidences" or no coincidences at all? Does the hand of the divine intervene in our lives; is it a psychic or spiritual phenomenon? If so, how would we know, and what does this look like or mean.
In 1930, Carl Jung, the Swiss Psychiatrist, first spoke of this concept. He and Sigmund Freud, The Father of Psychoanalysis, were colleagues. Over time they had a significant breach in their beliefs and philosophy. This divergence was about the nature of the subconscious mind.
Jung postulated the concept of “The Collective Unconscious." Freud disagreed.
Those interested in spirituality, metaphysics, and psychic phenomenon and going even a step further into the nature of higher consciousness would refer to it as the Quantum Field. Therefore, concluding that consciousness exists outside of the physical body. At age 3, I had a near-death experience, my third. It was drowning. I left my body and came back. I knew then that I was not in my body. It took me many more years to fully understand the ramifications of this event.
I do not believe in coincidences. Using my personal experience and those of my clients, I will outline what this looks like, how it works, and why it may not.
My most recent incident happened with a client coming in for a mediumship session to talk to his lost love. I had connected with her about a month or so before compellingly. Due to Covid and some other issues, his appointment needed to be re-booked twice. He was anxious to come back but did not say why. When I re-booked him the third time
"I said, how is May 3 at 2 p.m.?" I picked the day and time, or did I?
"He said, after my last session, some things happened." I just started to talk. "She is telling me she tried to push you out of bed; she does not like the woman you are with." We were both talking and saying the same thing at the same time.
"He then said, " I want to connect with her in a dream.” I felt her there, and I said, "she is saying she will come in a 3-time frame." That means a day with a 3 in it, three weeks, or 3 a.m. Then, "I said but wait, today is May 3." It is one of those moments you do not forget.
He reaches under a pile of papers he brought with him and hands one to me. I look at it, and it is her obituary, date of death, May 3, 2021. "He said look at that; I knew when you said the date. I even called my sister to tell her. I wanted to get back here before the anniversary of her death.”
Not only was it the day we booked, but she died between 3:05 and 3:15 p.m. I started the session at 2:06 p.m. and ended at 3:06 p.m. He will get back to me with her exact time of death. I would not be shocked if the timer went off at the precise time. Odds of this, just the date alone?
My second appointment that day was also for mediumship, and it also had been re-booked; her sister came through, and May 3 was her birthday. These are two examples of “meaningful coincidences.”
My own car story defies all logic. I leased a car. I usually buy them, but it was a good deal at the time. I was near the dealership one day, and my brakes felt funny. The car slowed down but not quite fast enough. I wondered if I should call them to come to get me or try to get there. It was a brand-new car with less than 300 miles on it. I made it to the parking lot and went in. I told the service person, "the brakes on my car just went." He replied, "that is not possible." As he went to turn the car around, they went to the floor, and he stopped about 12 inches from hitting the building.
They fixed it; motor oil was pumping into the brake line. At about 1,000 miles, I was out and had planned to go shopping. I was pulling into a lake house with a 40-foot drop to a large pond; there was a tree line, but still a steep decline. I shut off the car, and the brakes went to the floor again! In all my years of driving, I have never lost my brakes.
Now things get interesting, with dates, times, songs, and my deceased father.
Being psychic, I often look for signs, not looking but paying attention. They are happening all the time. Most of the time, we are not in the current moment and do not notice. The mind needs to be trained to stay present.
I asked them what day the car was built. December 14. Oh, not good, I am thinking. December 14, 2012, was the day of the tragic Sandy Hook shootings; December 14, 2013, was the day my father died a year later. "I won't take that car back." I was advised that they do not re-write leases. Ever. After some, well more than some, back and forth, they re-wrote that lease. I had to wait six weeks for another one to ship from Japan.
A little back story so we can tie it all together and then ponder the odds. The first time I saw my brother after my father died, the song "She Talks to Angels" came on in the background. We were crying. As I left the dealership that day, that little voice in my head said
“turn on the radio.” So, I did, and what song came on immediately? "Hi, Dad, I said."
So now I am thinking, my father is connected to that car, was he in the car with me? When I picked up the replacement car, I had to ask, "what day was this car built?"
The reply was "May 27." By now, they all know me and are waiting to see what will happen next. I get in it to go home, thinking, Humm, what happened on May 27? Well, we had a family dog, a cocker spaniel, born that day, which is positive. He was a great dog. Then I got home and called my mother. She tells me May 27 is the day she met my father, and May 27 is the day he proposed to her three years later. Coincidence? I am thinking no. I don't think so. I believe that somehow my father is connected to both of those cars. Those brakes could have gone at an intersection, a stop sign, on a highway. I could have had a terrible accident or worse, but I didn't. Now when I want a yes or no answer from him, and I am in the car, I say, "Dad, if the answer is yes, play the song; if no, don't."
I was on my way to see my mother for her birthday in May. I had a family member in the car, and I was discussing my first article’s topic. I said I think I am going to write about Synchronicity. Bam, seconds later, you do not have to guess what song came on Pandora.
We are laughing and shaking our heads. Well, I guess that is it.
These signs and omens or messages from Spirit, your higher self, God, Buddha, or your spiritual belief system are always happening. They are like little guide posts showing you which way to go. We miss them, and we miss them because we are not present. So many of us are thinking about the past or dreaming about the future that we miss the now. And trust me, now is where and when these messages are coming, Now is where, by our thoughts, deeds, and actions, we create what comes next. That is the topic for another article.
Let me share about one of my clients; I call her "flat tire Mel." That is how she is listed on my phone. She drives 90 minutes to see me, and one day is rushing, thinking her appointment is an hour earlier, she hits something and gets a flat tire. Frantic, she gets towed to my office. I tell her all is well. She is an hour early. She calls AAA, and they tell her no problem, contact us when you are done. When she calls, they tell her it will be a 6-hour wait. It is Summer. She decides to wait on the porch. I had someone after her. I usually leave 30 minutes between appointments. She comes walking back in with sheer amazement on her face. A year prior, she had referred a friend from her hometown to me. As she was sitting on the porch, who was walking up the walkway? Her friend. Now she has a ride home. Odds?
I will do one more that I will never forget. I connected with a father who committed suicide and a brother who died in a motorcycle accident for my client. Upstairs in my office building is a massage therapist. Once again, this was a changed appointment.
It was June. I know this because the week before this day, the sign on the stairwell that said
“For Father’s Day, don’t get him a tie; how about a massage?” was not there. The picture had all ties in different colors and shapes, maybe six or so.
While reading her, I said, "Your father left a suicide note in a book." He did and also in the book was a drawing done by her brother of a tie. As we walked out of the office, her boyfriend held up the picture, and "he said, isn't this the exact tie that your brother drew for your father?" It was—the exact color, shape, and pattern. Spirit, I always say, is efficient. Her father, tie, and brother are connected in a meaningful way in that photo. Had she come a week earlier, the picture and ad would not have been there. When these events come together, it is so powerful and poignant. So meaningful and so profoundly felt, they defy explanation.
They are signs; I have plenty more stories where these came from, that Spirit is always with us. How I came to leave my traditional job and open my practice is full of these events. They all fell into place like clockwork.
