Social medium giant Meta is testing a monthly subscription service, which will reward users for verifying their accounts.
The subscription bundles for Meta Verified will start at $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 a month on Apple's iOS system and Android, reports Reuters. The service will require users to verify their accounts using a governmental ID for which they will then get a blue badge.
The service will also offer extra protection measures for verified users against impersonation; access to account support and “increased visibility and reach with prominence in some areas of the platform– like search, comments and recommendations”, says Meta in a statement.
The statement adds that account owners must be 18 years of age and above; and meet minimum activity requirements. It will be open to individuals but not businesses; and the testing is starting in Australia and New Zealand.
Meta states: “Long term, we want to build a subscription offering that’s valuable to everyone, including creators, businesses and our community at large. As part of this vision, we are evolving the meaning of the verified badge so we can expand access to verification and more people can trust the accounts they interact with are authentic.”
This follows similar moves by Snapchat and Twitter.
