Kevin Myles, Fitness Life Coach and Educator

Please tell us more about you.

I’m a fitness and life coach, and I help people who’ve struggled to reach their fitness goals finally achieve them. My personal coaching includes individualized training and nutrition information, as well as personal growth and development guidance. I work with clients to identify and overcome limiting beliefs that have held them back and develop a new, empowering mindset that enables them to excel.

I developed an interest in fitness as a kid through playing various sports. In my teens and college years, I found joy in working out simply for the sake of exercise and have stayed dedicated to it for over 50 years! It was while working as a supervisor at my college gym that I first started doing personal training for free just to help people.

After I finished college and left my position as the dorm director, I worked in a health food store for 6 years before being recruited by Gold’s Gym. I eventually became a manager of two facilities in San Jose, California, over an 8-year period.

How did you build your career until this point?

While working for Gold’s Gym, I met an incredible gentleman from Canada named Terry Goodlad. Terry owned a fitness magazine and was a rising star in the fitness industry photography scene. We formed a business partnership that lasted for 15 years, during which we collaborated in the competitive fitness industry media landscape. This partnership and friendship opened up more opportunities and connections for me than I could have ever imagined, for which I will always be grateful!

Since then, I have had the pleasure of training and coaching numerous people ranging from complete beginners to professional athletes. I became a highly successful contest prep coach, and I now teach others how to do contest prep coaching.

Wanting to leverage the internet, I created and published multiple online fitness education courses on various topics. I also own and operate several fitness-based websites, have given numerous fitness and motivational seminars, and have authored and/or co-authored two books.

I also have an online shop in partnership with a holistic wellness company that manufactures pharmaceutical-grade, all-natural nutritional supplements and organic skin care products. Plus, they have just launched an amazing all-natural food-grade pet care line! I’m part of a project to help duplicate the massive success they’ve had in Europe here in the US.

Through my journey, I’ve had the good fortune of being coached and mentored by Todd Burrier, author of 3 Circles Living. He, along with Tony Robbins, Dean Graziosi, David Bayer, Ed JC. Smith, and others, have really sparked a lot of personal growth and development involvement for me, which I now incorporate into my Fitness-Life coaching business.

What’s your purpose, mission, and driving force for all the work you do?

I really want to help people understand and experience the amazing impact that living a fitness lifestyle can have. Not only does it positively impact your health, energy, longevity, and the typical physical things that are most commonly focused on, but what it can do for your mental outlook and emotional health is immeasurable.

Right now I’m trying to have a greater impact via increasing my reach. There are a lot of people who need help. If they could experience the countless number of positive ways that investing in themselves through fitness can have on their lives, the impact on individuals and on society as a whole would be amazing.

What services or products do you offer?

I provide 1-to-1 coaching and small group virtual coaching that incorporates mindset and personal growth guidance with the most effective principles of exercise and nutrition. I try to educate and inspire people to live healthier lives and be more fit through the information in my online education courses, fitness websites, books, seminars, coaching, and my online wellness shop. I also enjoy collaborating with others and either shining a spotlight on them and/or providing them with opportunities to be more successful from a fitness-business standpoint so that they/we can hopefully reach and help more people as well.

What key advice do you have for achieving success?

Try to stay both patient and positive. Most things of value take a while, often longer than we think. That’s even more true now, as there are so many moving parts with ever-evolving technology. So there will probably be a learning curve in doing the things you’re planning, plus it will take time to build a presence and gain momentum.

Also, success can be a moving target and isn’t the same for all people. What you believe is success right now may be different than what you feel it is later on. Try to enjoy the journey and understand that there is often as much or more value in taking that journey as there is in arriving at your intended destination.

What common challenges do your customers face, and how are you helping them meet this challenge?

Surprisingly, a lot of people don't really value themselves. They don't understand how important they are, and they don't understand how important fitness is. This keeps them from taking the time and putting in the necessary effort into themselves, which keeps them from being as fit and healthy as possible.

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?

Well, in the physique competition industry, the normalization of the use of chemicals and performance-enhancing drugs has gotten completely out of control. It’s beyond unhealthy and is now dangerous and off-the-scale ridiculous. There’s a lot that needs to be done, but it starts with the powers that be acknowledging the problem.

As far as “mainstream fitness,” I think there are many people who don’t really know what it means to be fit. They think it’s just about looking good, but it’s so much more. People who haven’t tried fitness don’t know how amazing it feels to not be tired, not have aches and pains, what it’s like to be off medication, have more energy, feel stronger, be more mobile, and feel more positive and optimistic. I believe that if they knew how much better they would feel, a lot more people would be willing to try to get fit and dedicate themselves to achieving fitness-related goals.

For readers inspired by this conversation and eager to start their journey, what first steps would you recommend?

First, allow yourself to believe and know that you can achieve the things you want. The best possible future you can envision for yourself can be created.

Next, discover your “why”, your reason that you want/need to make the change you desire. Many times, it winds up being for something or someone other than yourself.

Then, it’s about taking the right steps with consistency over time. Yes, there will be obstacles and challenges, but those will help you grow into who you need to be to become the person you are evolving into.

Finally, get help if and when you need it, whether it’s through personal coaching or simply reading the right books or listening to the right information. I would be happy to help anyone I can. I even offer free consultations and discovery calls so we can see if we are a good fit. Feel free to contact me through my website or email me here to learn more.
