Sexual understanding among young adults is a multifaceted topic that spans knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to sexuality. Statistics on this subject can vary widely depending on the specific aspect you're interested in, such as sexual education, sexual health knowledge, spirituality, or attitudes toward sexual relationships.

Old Treasure Chest With Jewellery

Walking up the stairs to the attic, she saw a sparkle from across the room. She wondered, "What could it be?" As she walked closer, the sparkle became brighter. She moved other items that hid the box she so desired to see. It was a silver and gold treasure box. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She was curious: "What could be inside." There was a lock on it. Not just any lock, this lock was unusual. It had a chain attached all around it. The treasure box itself was lovely. She couldn't imagine opening it to see what was inside. Even though she wondered, she decided it was best to keep it locked up and enjoy the beauty of the treasure box until the right time to open it.

Value of sexuality in a christian perspective

In the same way, the girl valued the treasure box; one should value one's sexuality. Your sexuality is a gift from God. God created sex for the purposes He intended. What's the purpose of sex from God's viewpoint? I'm so glad you asked. Get your Bible, and let's find out. Genesis 1:27-31: "So God created man in his image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living creature that moves on the ground. Then God said, I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food and everything that has the breath of life in it . And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was good.

The value of sexuality is a decision in each person's heart to believe that it's a treasure. Self-worth and self-confidence can connect to how they value this special gift from God. Can we train our young adults to understand the importance of holding on to the treasured gift until they are ready to use it to express love in a covenant of promise?

Sexuality as a treasure

Christianity teaches that sexuality is a gift from God intended for expression within the bounds of marriage. The Bible emphasizes the importance of understanding and respecting this gift in a way that honors God. God created males and females, which illustrates the relationship between husbands and wives, and he gives them practical instructions on how to live together. Be fruitful, multiply, and enjoy the life He created for you.

Everything that God created up to this point was good. Sex is for a covenant relationship, which is marriage. It's a special gift between two married people who love and respect one another and are committed to the well-being of each other's happiness, which in turn can produce children.

It's also an expression of their continual love for one another. When used in this context, the value of the experience can be excellent. You miss the true beauty of the experience when it's diminished to just a physically lustful act. Your sexuality should have value as a treasure.

Sexual education in purity and holiness

Young adults are encouraged to pursue purity and holiness in their sexual behavior as a Christian. 1st Thessalonians 4:3-5 emphasizes living a life that reflects God's standards and avoiding behaviors that are considered sinful. Sex is a treasure you want to keep safe until that special relationship-marriage takes place, even though this isn't a popular decision or viewpoint of this generation.

Christian teachings emphasize treating oneself and others with respect and dignity. It's encouraged to set healthy boundaries and understand the importance of consent and mutual respect. The importance of understanding and avoiding temptations.  Young adults are encouraged to navigate their sexuality with self-control and wisdom. They recognize and avoid situations that may lead to temptation or compromise personal values.

There are many voices on this topic. What voice should you listen to? John 10:14: "I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep, and my sheep know me, and a stranger they will not follow." The voice of God gives us hope and a future". We often make choices based on misinformation, a lack of information, or peer pressure. Knowing the truth gives us the freedom to make good choices. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Exploring healthy relationships in love

Christian teachings of building relationships stress the importance of building relationships based on trust, love, and mutual respect. Practice open communication and working together to grow spiritually and emotionally. Many Christians encourage dating to find a lifelong partner, emphasizing getting to know each other profoundly and considering the relationship's potential for marriage.

Christianity teaches that everyone falls short and makes mistakes. Understanding and accepting God's forgiveness and grace is essential for anyone who feels they have not lived up to their values. If you're struggling with sexual issues or have questions about relationships, it's encouraged to seek guidance from trusted mentors, pastors, or Christian counselors.

Personal reflection and growth

Pray and reflect to understand your values and how they align with your actions. Personal faith practices can offer insight and guidance. Reading and reflecting on Biblical passages related to love, relationships, and morality can provide clarity and direction.

God wants your life to be successful and pleasing to him. Thessalonians 4: 1-8: "Finally, brothers, we instructed you to live to please God, as you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. You know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. It's God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality, that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable".

You're a treasure to be adored, respected, and loved. Remember, a treasure unlocked loses its value each time, and when it comes to your sexuality, make the right choice. Value yourself today.
