In a world bustling with endless responsibilities, the weekend serves as a precious opportunity to slow down, rejuvenate, and reconnect with what truly matters. Whether through intentional rest or heartfelt worship, taking time to honor your body, mind, and spirit is essential. Worship transcends rituals; it’s an intimate expression of gratitude and adoration, drawing you closer to the divine. Rest, on the other hand, is a gift from God, designed to replenish and restore. Embrace your weekends as a sanctuary for reflection, restoration, and spiritual growth, allowing peace and purpose to guide your journey.
Finding rest in a busy life
On the weekends, I rest and take the time to worship. After working six days a week with long hours, I do my best to find some rest during the weekend. In addition to my work, I also manage household responsibilities and take care of my husband and little one. Worship means different things to different people; some may cry, lift their hands to honor and adore God, or worship quietly with tears. Worship is not always confined to a building we call a church house. It is a deep, spiritual, and intimate time with the Lord. Lay your cares and vulnerabilities at the altar.
Pride cannot enter into humility, but understanding that it is God’s grace that gives us a heart of worship and praise is key.
For me, worship is not restricted to weekends only, as I make time for it every day. However, I understand that some people only get the opportunity to go to church on the weekends. The key is to know that you can worship and rest any day and at any time. The important thing is to make the decision to enjoy your weekends, whether it's for rest, worship, or even better, both. Rest and worship also contribute to the natural enjoyment of life as you engage in your day-to-day responsibilities and find time with family and friends. Time is precious and not redeemable. We pray that in God’s sovereignty, He will redeem our lost time.
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work" (Exodus 20:8-10, KJV).
Embracing the weekend
The weekend is a time when we should make the decision to relax and rejuvenate. How do you spend your weekends? Do you rest, worship, or do other activities? This is not meant to judge you but to encourage you to think about how you spend your time.
Think of three ways you can rest in God. Rest excludes worrying, anxiety, and doubting the hand of God. It takes a made-up mind to receive the peace and rest of God. Avoid complicating rest and worship with logic or analytical twists. God is not logical but all-knowing and all-being.
Here are three ways to embrace rest:
Choose a day to rest: Decide on a specific day to rest.
Do not change your mind: Stick to your decision to rest.
Avoid feeling guilty or embarrassed about your decision: Rest is necessary and God-ordained.
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29, KJV).
The weekend is not just about Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It’s a time and space for us to recover. Many people are busy with work, school, and other responsibilities during the weekdays. However, the weekend should be a time for rest and worship.
Understanding the importance of rest
According to the thesaurus, the weekend can also mean a vacation, a day of rest, or a time for travel and relaxation. It's important to understand that everyone's life and needs are different, and we all need time to recover from our daily routines.
The Lord wants us to take time to rest and trust in Him. It's not just about resting and worshiping on the weekend; it's about making the decision to take care of our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Unfortunately, many people neglect their health, which can have serious consequences. It's important to find a balance in taking care of our bodies.
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28, KJV).
Out of balance rest
Physical discomforts:Â Nausea, abdominal or stomach pain, migraine headaches, elevated blood pressure, and other physical ailments.
Emotional discomforts:Â Anxiety struggles affecting sleep, poor decision-making, ongoing stress, depression, and anger, which can lead to physical health challenges.
Worship is a decision to choose to honor God deeply. When we worship, we adore and reverence God. Worship involves action: lifting our hands, praising, exalting, glorifying, and loving God. It is a time to respect and honor His word. Worship can happen in church, but it is also a personal and private experience with God.
"Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness" (Psalm 29:2, KJV).
Embracing worship
God's desire for us is to be saved and embrace the principles of worship. Worship means adoring God, lifting our hands, using our bodies to honor Him, and engaging in prayer and daily devotions. These practices may seem fundamental, but they are essential for our spiritual growth. For those struggling with strongholds, soul ties, or sinful hindrances, ask God for forgiveness and repent.
"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him" (John 4:23, KJV).
The essence of weekend rest and worship
The concept of the weekend is not limited to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It can be any day that works well for you and your family. The goal is to understand that God wants us to rest and worship whenever we can. It's not about being rigid and sticking to a specific calendar; it's about making the decision to take care of ourselves and spend time with our loved ones and with God.
Three ways to experience weekend rest
Choose a day to rest: Pick a specific day that works best for you.
Do not change your mind: Commit to your chosen day of rest.
Avoid feeling guilty or embarrassed about your decision: Rest is a God-given right.
The Bible emphasizes the importance of rest and worship. Here are some scriptures to meditate on:
"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy" (Exodus 20:8, KJV).
"Six days thou shalt labour, and do all thy work" (Exodus 20:9, KJV).
"But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work" (Exodus 20:10, KJV).
Conclusion
Rest and worship are essential aspects of our lives. They provide an opportunity to recharge, reflect, and connect with God. By making a conscious decision to rest and worship, we honor God and take care of our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Let us embrace the weekend as a time for rest and worship, allowing God's peace to fill our hearts and minds.
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul" (Psalm 23:1-3, KJV).
