My late father once said, “A person’s success has no meaning unless they can share it with others in a manner that uplifts and enriches lives”. We’ve all been affected by the unfortunate ramifications of the pandemic in more ways than one. No one knew that a virus could seep through overnight and irrevocably change the lives of people across the globe. As the pandemic continues to shift its way into our lives, it is also paving way for new schools of thought around many notions that we have shelved for a while.

In order to adopt a new ‘normal’ and a novel perspective toward the ever-changing world around us, it will require each one of us to reflect, reassess and recalibrate. Therefore, it is quintessential to understand the interplay between the individual and the collective, to truly succeed.

Previously, we may have had the liberty to view the notion of success in an utterly different light. Both in our business world and in our personal lives, we can no longer associate ‘success’ with a ‘person’ or an ‘entity’.

The past two years have urged us to demystify and stipulate a more holistic approach to success.

Each one of us wants to experience success and receive the blessings that come with it. However, when we embark upon an endeavour, it’s not just the resources or our abilities, but it’s the attitude that we start our journey with. One that defines our version of success in the end.

If we all go past the simple transactions and emphasise our desire for transformation, it is bound to mobilise our mind and spirit to see beyond the conventional realms. Personally, I believe this affirms our self-worth and empowers us to raise ourselves first before we can do anything substantial for the world.

Re-thinking success is not an obligation, but rather, it is an opportunity to reconstruct new norms, values, systems and processes. A chance for us to see the change that we all seek, but perhaps have been fearful of taking a deep dive.

So, here is a set of questions to ask yourself to take charge in this ‘new’ world:

1. Do I have a clear purpose or do I need to revisit my purpose?

2. Am I willing to unlearn and relearn, to establish meaningful relationships?

3. Do my efforts lead to engaging and enriching conversations?

4. Who else can genuinely experience this transformation and grow with me?

5. Have I been sincere in taking action to connect and collaborate?

6. Am I following a trend/fad or am I invested in my endeavours authentically?

7. Once I reach this goal, how can I build and expand on my vision?

8. Am I in for the long haul or is it simply a short-term gain that is of interest to me?

9. What skills and attributes do I encompass and practice as a leader that would enable future leaders?

10. What are the various dimensions of success that are of value to me and how does this impact those around me?

The questions above will provide you with a kaleidoscopic view of what your version of success would look like. It will help create your ‘own’ boundaries and allow you to channel your energy and effort in your ‘own’ unique way.

Pursuing success should be an experience that feeds us emotionally, physically, financially socially and spiritually. Taking time to develop a broader sense of what is relevant in these categories, will strengthen our grit and commitment to achieving success that endures.

When we make conscious choices, are honest in our undertakings, and apply the right matrix of tools, we activate our magnetic fields to attract the right people and manifest opportunities. In short, we become a powerhouse to navigate our roles & responsibilities with confidence and conviction. Embracing the constant interchange between our internal and external worlds helps curate our most gratifying recipe for success.

By seeking transformation rather than a mere transaction, we pledge to acknowledge and celebrate not just our talents but also the brilliance of others.

It is a process that will mould us to become an indelible marker in others’ lives through which our presence has an unwavering impact.

In this sense, we are not just leading a path of success, we are then creating a legacy!
