Porcelain seems to be the new rage in the world of countertops. Would you like to know why?
Porcelain slabs are only ½” thick. It's generally installed on top of a plywood base. So if you want the look of a 3” counter, it's easy to build that up without a lot of added expense. 1. Durability & Hardness – Did you know that porcelain, for instance, is much stronger than granite and is almost as hard as quartz? Porcelain’s tough structure also makes it scratch resistant. You can even slice and dice food right on it without worrying about your knives damaging the surface. 2. Heat endurance – After enduring such high fabrication temperatures, it makes sense that one advantage is its heat resistance. You should have no problem handling hot pots and pans even when you place them directly on a porcelain countertop. 3. Easy Maintenance – Besides being easy to keep clean, porcelain is also non-porous and stain-resistant. That’s music to a countertop owner’s ears because it means no sealing is required. Porcelain is virtually impervious to water 4. UV Light Resistance – One major advantage porcelain has over quartz is that direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight won’t discolor it. 5. Environmentally Friendly – Finally, one of the porcelain’s biggest plusses is its greenness. It’s a 100% natural product made of raw and clay-based materials, so it’s nice to know you’ll be able to recycle it one day.
At the National Kitchen & Bath show, we got to see induction cooktops being used on porcelain, the demonstration blew my mind. In Europe, porcelain & Dekton have really hit it off. Looks like we are always a few years behind in adapting to the way the world is moving compared to Europe.

As you can see there is a lot of similarity between Dekton & Porcelain slabs.
