Overcoming Health Challenges To Lead A Wellness Revolution – Interview With Shandrae Runnels

Shandrae Runnels is a dedicated leader, health coach, and registered nurse, with a passion for healthy living. With a family history of diabetes, she was devastated to learn she developed pre-diabetes at a young age. She struggled with her weight, developed high blood pressure, and lacked motivation to maintain a healthy diet and exercise routine. Shandrae took control of her health by educating herself through a health coaching course, eventually earning her health coaching certification. She then developed and successfully followed her own health and wellness program. Shandrae, CEO of Revitalize Life 360, is committed to helping others who are struggling to adopt and sustain a healthier lifestyle via her personalized programs.

Who is Shandrae? Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.


Hello, my name is Shandrae and I’m a Certified Health Coach, Certified Yoga Instructor, and Board-Certified Registered Nurse. My lifelong passion for health, wellness, nursing, and medicine has driven my career and personal interests.


I grew up in a small rural town in Texas with my parents and brother. While I don't have children, I share my home with a beloved wiener dog named Xena and have strong family ties. I cherish spending quality time with my family throughout the year, especially during the holidays. I relocated to Katy, Texas, just outside of Houston, in 2022. I have been a registered nurse since 2011 and became board-certified in medical and surgical nursing in 2023. While working in acute care and rehab settings, I have always been passionate about assisting others with their health and various disease processes during their most trying times.


In my free time, I enjoy socializing with friends, whether exploring the city, visiting museums and events, or enjoying a relaxed evening with movies. I also appreciate the outdoors, hiking trails, taking a leisurely walk in the park, or simply spending time by the pool during the hot Texas summers.


Maintaining a self-care routine is important to me, and I find activities like getting in a workout at the gym, visiting the nail salon with friends, quality time with family, shopping, making healthy food choices, and going to get a massage activities I enjoy that helping me stay balanced. Keeping myself balanced helps me manage and alleviate the stress I may encounter during the week.

Growing up, I was very active, participating in various sports such as volleyball, track and field, powerlifting, and dance throughout high school. In my 20s, I discovered yoga and became deeply passionate about it. This led me to pursue a certification in yoga. I joined a yoga studio specializing in hot yoga where I grew to love something I thought I would never do. I’ve made many connections while joining in on yoga events throughout the Houston area.  My goal in life is to help others explore new fitness adventures, eat mindfully, connect with like-minded individuals, stay active, and adhere to a healthy lifestyle.


What motivated you to start Revitalize Life 360, and what core principles guide your business?


My motivation for starting Revitalize Life 360 stemmed from my personal health challenges with prediabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure in my early 20s.  I realized that many others faced similar issues, trying countless diets and quick fixes, only to revert to old habits after a few weeks. I found that maintaining change was difficult without adapting my mindset, as I hadn’t fully grasped the importance of changing my way of thinking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Being my own accountability partner to even become just a little more physically active proved challenging without sufficient motivation.


The core principles I’ve integrated into my program are designed to maximize client success and motivation. By focusing on a client-centered approach, I enhance the client-coach relationship, offering a more personalized, client-driven experience tailored to individual health and wellness goals.


At Revitalize Life 360, I have established a holistic, balanced approach, taking into account the full spectrum of health—what I refer to as the “RevLife 360 Blueprint”—including nutrition, physical activity, mental and emotional well-being, stress management, and lifestyle adaptations.


I also emphasize evidence-based practice, providing clients with clear, research-backed information to support their journey. Unlike many social media claims, which often lack reliable research and can mislead individuals into temporary solutions, my approach is grounded in proven results.


Building a transparent, trusting rapport with my clients and supporting them in staying accountable is central to helping them achieve lasting results.

 

Can you elaborate on the range of services and products you offer, and how they contribute to a holistic approach to health and wellness?


Revitalize Life 360 is a holistic, virtual 1:1 client-driven approach to health and wellness. My program is designed to support adults with diabetes, prediabetes, and general weight loss management, as well as nutritional support in digestive health for IBS and Crohn’s disease. Fitness coaching is available for all clients and can help enhance overall well-being. Although I live in Texas, my company serves clients globally as well. I also focus on mindset adaptability during the client’s journey as this may be a completely new change for them. I believe that addressing this element is crucial for long-term success and sustainability.


In addition to these services, I offer both private and group yoga sessions, which can be attended in person or virtually, allowing flexibility to fit different schedules, locations, and preferences. My four-month program is designed to be adaptable, with options to extend coaching beyond the four-month timeframe without any additional costs if necessary.


After an initial online consultation, I will work closely with you, establish a trusting relationship, and support the client to develop a customized plan that is tailored to their unique goals and needs. This will be something the client is comfortable and in agreement with. I'm a structured individual and like to make goal-setting with my clients a smooth process. I like to incorporate SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time) to further target what the client is looking for and how to properly achieve that goal.  I want each client to feel comfortable with the changes they make in their lifestyle to help them stay on track.


Both the client and I will emphasize creating a plan that suits their individual journey and preferences. Instead of following rigid diet plans, I focus on finding what works best to avoid burnout and help you stay motivated. My goal is to support you in becoming the best version of yourself, helping you feel good, look good, and maintain your health while managing any pre-existing conditions effectively.

 

What sets Revitalize Life 360 apart from other wellness and lifestyle companies in the industry?


What sets Revitalize Life 360 apart from other health and wellness companies is the fact that I use my own distinctive coaching method, which I’ve personally developed and tested on both myself and close acquaintances, achieving noticeable and sustainable results within four months. I also have over a decade of experience in the nursing field and can offer clients detailed insights into various health conditions they may be experiencing or have questions about. I continue to follow my coaching methods in my own life to effectively manage my weight, prevent illness, and maintain insulin sensitivity. My personal experience enables me to empathize with my clients and understand the challenges they face. By living out the principles I teach, I can offer authentic support and help clients work through setbacks and obstacles so they can continue enjoying their lives. 

 

How do you engage with your clients to ensure they receive personalized and effective support on their wellness journeys?


There are several ways I engage with my clients to ensure they receive personalized and effective support during their health and wellness journey.  I ask open-ended questions to get the client to elaborate on situations they’ve experienced in the past that may be hindering their health journey. My experience with asking open-ended questions to my first clients helped me to dig deep and learn more about them and their lifestyles. I also make sure to actively listen to the client during our conversations so I can gather as much information as needed to support them with their decisions and goal-setting.


Another way I engage with my clients, especially with trying new things when it comes to their nutritional changes, is to offer discounts on select food products that will support their new nutritional habits. This approach gets the client to inquire about what discounts they may receive and to try new products that align with their new way of living.


Lastly, I supply clients with evidence-based research and easy-to-read to read diagrams, and shopping lists for their personal use. I love getting their input on how they will incorporate it into their new lifestyle and how it will affect their mindset going forward.

 

What are your future plans for Revitalize Life 360, and how do you aim to expand or innovate in the wellness industry?


I would like to expand my business by collaborating with other health and wellness companies to offer my clients more accessible and affordable options for health and wellness products and gym memberships. I also plan to host free webinars and workshops to educate and engage with clients who are interested in enhancing their overall health. These events will also feature giveaways of popular health and wellness products. Finally, I aim to partner with medical and wellness professionals to offer my clients discounts on various products further supporting their journey and new lifestyle.
