Morgan O. Smith's Awakening Journey - How Yinnergy Meditation Was Born

Brainz Magazine Exclusive Interview

After a profound spiritual awakening in 2008, Morgan O. Smith dedicated his life to guiding others toward inner peace and spiritual growth. As a nonduality teacher, certified meditation instructor, and brainwave entrainment developer, Morgan has transformed countless lives through his unique approach to spirituality. He founded Yinnergy Meditation, a grassroots project that fosters emotional, mental, and spiritual development through deep sonic entrainment. Morgan’s journey with brainwave entrainment began back in 2003 when he started meditating with this technology religiously, setting the foundation for his later work and insights into consciousness.

Morgan has worked in the non-profit sector as a frontline worker for many years, supporting marginalized youth and families. He has also provided meditation sessions for clients at the Corrective Healthcare & Rehabilitation Centre under Dr. Olivier Abtan. Additionally, he launched mind@ease, a mindfulness program with schools within the Toronto District School Board to help students navigate the challenges of the pandemic. His dedication to marginalized communities has earned him several awards, including the Rose Clarke Citizenship Award (2019), the Girmalla Persaud Award & Service Award (2021), the RISE Community Initiative Award (2023), and the Service Recognition Award (2024).

Before dedicating himself to community work and spiritual teaching, Morgan was a stand-up comedian and Gemini Award-winning writer, co-hosting Buzz, which aired for six seasons on The Comedy Network in Canada. Sharing stages with comedy icons like Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Howie Mandel, and Russell Peters, he brought joy to audiences before shifting to a journey focused on the joy within. In 2003, Morgan was also nominated for the Gemini Awards Viewer’s Choice for Canada’s Favourite Comedian.

Morgan is the inspiration behind The God Behind the God, a book by author Arian Herbert. He is also the author of Bodhi in the Brain and has financially contributed to documentaries such as The Connected Universe, featuring renowned physicist Nassim Haramein. Additionally, Morgan is the co-founder of the KeMor Centre for Innovative Development, a new organization dedicated to personal growth through tech. His dedication to mastering consciousness and meditation practices is further enriched by his studies with Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, a pioneer in sound-based healing, and his graduation from the Evolutionary Dynamic Mastery Program under Sacred Media, led by world-renowned philosopher Ken Wilber. Together with his KeMor Centre co-founder, Keda Edwards Pierre, Morgan showcased their startup at one of the world’s biggest conferences, Collision (2024) and will be presenting again at the Vancouver Web Summit (2025).

Can you share more about what happened in 2008 and how that led to your 2019 awakening?

In 2008, after five years of daily meditation, I experienced my first spiritual awakening, which ignited an unquenchable drive for self-exploration and transformation. That experience offered a glimpse of nonduality—a moment where I intuitively felt the oneness underlying all existence. This insight was profound but incomplete, almost like the opening of a door that invited me to walk further in. The decade that followed was a continuous journey of meditation, entheogens, shadow work, contemplation, and self-inquiry, which brought me closer to deeper realizations.

By 2019, after my encounter with a spiritual guru, my inner work had reached its peak, culminating in what I describe as a full spiritual awakening. This moment surpassed what I had felt in 2008 and everything in between—it was a total dissolution of perceived boundaries, an experience of oneness with everything within and beyond existence. This awakening was a true embodiment of absolute monism, shifting my understanding of life and reality at a fundamental level.

What drives or inspires you?

The insights I’ve gained from my own spiritual experiences are what fuel me. The realization that we are all one, unified within a single, boundless whole, inspires me to help others uncover their true nature. This conviction—knowing that inner peace and self-realization are available to everyone—drives my work. I believe tools like Yinnergy Meditation can accelerate this journey, helping people experience transformations similar to mine.

What is your motto or core message?

My core message centers on transcending the illusion of separation. True spiritual growth is about moving beyond the idea that we are isolated beings and experiencing the interconnectedness of all life. This journey requires deep inner work, and a willingness to look within and dismantle the layers of ego that obscure our true nature. I encourage others to fully embrace this journey and the changes it can bring to their lives.

Who inspires you to be the best you can be?

I am deeply inspired by spiritual figures such as Ramana Maharshi and Ol Doinyo Laetoli le Baaba, who embody pure awareness and the dissolution of the ego. Their lives and teachings remind me to deepen my practice and serve as a guide for others. They show us that true spiritual growth isn’t about grandiosity or titles; it’s about embodying humility, authenticity, and inner clarity.

What is a core value that you hold close to?

One of my core values is authenticity on the spiritual path. Real transformation requires sincere and consistent practice, going beyond surface-level experiences to unlock genuine growth. I believe the spiritual journey is a deeply personal one, and focusing on authenticity allows each person to cultivate a foundation of wisdom and integrity that transcends external influences.

Tell us about your book and the concept behind it.

My book, Bodhi in the Brain, delves into how Yinnergy Meditation combines brainwave entrainment and mathematical principles to accelerate spiritual growth and peak experiences. The book explores how different brainwave patterns influence our consciousness and emotional states, offering practical insights for personal transformation. Through this approach, readers can gain a deeper understanding of meditation’s power to foster healing and open the doors to spiritual awakening.

What are some common misconceptions about meditation, and how do you address them? What first steps would you recommend for readers eager to start their journey?

A common misconception is that meditation is solely for stress relief or relaxation. While meditation does alleviate stress, it is also a powerful tool for self-realization and personal growth. It can clear emotional blockages, deepen our consciousness, and help us reconnect with our true nature. For beginners, I recommend starting with mindfulness or breath-focused meditation—simple yet highly effective practices.

For those interested in deeper states, Yinnergy Meditation can support this process. It uses low-carrier frequency brainwave entrainment to guide the mind into meditative states gradually. Consistency in meditation is essential for success, an hour each day can lead to profound transformations over time.

How does Yinnergy Meditation work?

Yinnergy Meditation uses a combination of brainwave entrainment and vortex-based mathematics to shift the brain into deeper states of consciousness. By guiding brainwaves from stress-related states into more meditative ones like alpha, theta, delta, and even epsilon, Yinnergy facilitates emotional healing, deep relaxation, and spiritual insight. Its effectiveness is rooted in vortex-based mathematics, a principle aligned with universal patterns. The entrainment allows the brain to resonate with its precise algorithms, allowing for smooth transitions into deep meditation and whole-brain functioning.

As the brain adapts to these frequencies, users experience profound shifts in consciousness, fostering personal and spiritual growth.

What does Yinnergy Meditation consist of?

Yinnergy consists of audio tracks that use precise sound frequencies, specifically based on the numbers one, two, four, eight, seven and five, which make up the sacred numbers three, six, and nine. These frequencies help shift the brain from stress-associated beta states into brainwave states linked with healing, creativity, relaxation, and insight. Structured in progressive levels, each level of Yinnergy introduces deeper meditative experiences as the brain becomes accustomed to high-amplitude beat frequencies.

This practice blends brainwave entrainment science with vortex-based mathematics, making Yinnergy a supportive system for all, whether new to meditation or seasoned practitioners. Over time, users can achieve these profound states more naturally, making it easier to tap into their deeper consciousness and facilitate emotional healing.
