Dawnn A. Vance, NAACP Political Advocate

Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

Greetings everyone, my name is Minister Dawnn A. Vance. I come from a military lineage and I'm proud to be a humanitarian hero who loves the great outdoors. My mother has marched in many civil rights movements as well as BLM and advocating voluntarily with the NAACP. In my role as a political advocate, I too strive for justice. At home, I have a lovely rex rabbit and a lively one-year-old Presa Canario dog.

As a minister and political advocate for the NAACP, what specific initiatives or campaigns are you currently involved in, and what outcomes are you hoping to achieve?

I am currently collaborating with the Clifton Hills Community in Chattanooga, TN on a project aimed at achieving justice, equality, and change. In case you're interested, I have written a Brainz article that provides more insight into the background of this project. My hope and prayer for this community is that they can establish a more inclusive and diverse community council, which will enable them to live freely and safely within their own community.

How do you navigate the intersectionality of issues related to race, religion, and politics in your advocacy work?

"I strongly believe in approaching things with an open mind and transparency. When I was ordained in 2016, I found myself constantly wondering what kind of minister I was meant to be in the eyes of our creator. This question stayed with me for about three to four years before I started ministering. However, after my ordination. I obtained my passport and began traveling the world. I met many people and visited different places to learn more about their experiences and not just their culture. I believe that it's impossible to lead people unless you have experienced being amongst them."

"The pursuit of knowledge is akin to worship. I rely on facts and knowledge, not the fabrication of educational knowledge. True wisdom comes from experience, and it is this experience that allows me to speak on a wide range of topics and represent a diverse group of people."

In your view, what are some of the most pressing challenges facing marginalized communities today, and how do you believe they can be addressed?

One of the biggest challenges facing humanity today is the era of multiculturalism. With so many integrated relationships and bi-racial families, we are in a state of limbo, where young people and retired/elderly citizens coexist alongside those who still carry the scars and trauma of segregation and discrimination. The viewpoints of those who cling to old ways and hold grudges from the past can sometimes hinder progress in this multi-era society.

Can you discuss any upcoming projects or collaborations that you're excited about, and how they align with your vision for promoting equality and social justice?

"Yes! I am very excited about my upcoming project, which is being undertaken through my non-profit organization, The Febe Foundation. The foundation was established in honor of my ancestor, Phebe Akan. At The Febe Foundation, we focus on community development and environmental sustainability." So, I’m super excited!
