Her message is to face the fear and have the courage to take the first step to live the life you really want instead of wishing you had done something.
Mei Flynn, Holistic Confidence Coach
How did you get into the world of metaphysics and holistic healing?
I was living in United Arab Emirates working as a nurse and was loving the party expat lifestyle, maybe a bit too much!! This was a fun part of my life, but I felt something was missing and there must be more to life. I could feel how I lacked self-confidence and alcohol was always a crutch to boost this, but deep down I felt unhappy with the swing from feeling happy and drunk to the lows of waking up the next day. This pattern continued and eventually, I discovered Reiki and the work of Louise Hay who wrote ‘You Can Heal your Life.’ This was transformational for me in the way I was viewing other people and the outside works and became aware of how I was blocking myself from what I desired in life. This stemmed from childhood with feelings of not being good enough.
What makes Metaphysical Counselling different to traditional methods?
Metaphysics if we look at the words means meta (beyond) physics (physical reality). It is a way of looking at life based on the belief that we are all connected to the One Power, whether people call it God, Spirit, Universe, Divine etc. We learn about laws such as law of attraction and how we can apply them to our lives to create the life we want. We also need to be aware of how we block ourselves with limiting beliefs. This type of counselling uses a psycho-spiritual approach with a combination of psychology and spirituality.
Is your type of counselling based on a particular religion?
No Metaphysical Counselling affirms, as I mentioned, that we are all connected to the One Power, and we acknowledge all religions and faiths. When I work with clients I use the word that resonates for them for a Higher Power, so it works alongside the framework of their religion. This has been crucial for me on my travels as I’ve worked with people from all different faiths and religions and they appreciate how I can blend their religion into our work together.
Can you give us an example of how you work with clients?
A client might book a counselling session with me as they are having relationship issues with their current partner and they find they are being very critical for example. I would gather some information regarding childhood years to see when the child came to this conclusion about life due to past events e.g., and I am not good enough. We don’t realise that these limiting beliefs continue to play out in current day reality contributing to repeated patterns attracting critical partners or bosses. The key aspect with this counselling approach is going back to the root cause i.e. when something started and doing the healing work at that level.
Do you work with clients individually or in groups?
Both as some people prefer to discuss issues privately while others enjoy the group energy with sharing ideas and opinions with others. Some clients also like a combination of both and I offer regular 6 week journeys based on body confidence, self-love and self-awareness. The programmes created for clients are based on their needs and their stage of consciousness and uses an intuitive approach so I can help clients as effectively as I can.
Tell us about your typical day
I love to wake up early around 4am as I find I am really productive at that time. It is a time to enjoy my morning coffee and do some meditation before I switch on my computer and start my day. I usually do a few hours work and then I take a break for 2 hours and go to the gym and relax and have time to enjoy my breakfast in the sunshine. I usually do my teaching and coaching work until around 5 pm and then spend another 1-2 hours walking on the beach in the evening watching the sunrise. This is my way to clear the energy from the day and I love it. I feel as if I have a great work-life balance and learnt to live in the present moment embracing life and all it offers.
How has metaphysics helped you personally?
The way that Metaphysics has helped me is that I know there are lessons and gifts from even the most challenging times. The biggest challenge for me was when my husband ended our five year marriage a few months before my counselling exams in 2015. When it first happened I thought the timing was really bad, but in fact it was all perfect to what I was learning and cultivating faith and trust and applying my knowledge of metaphysics to my own life. This is when the digital nomad lifestyle started and at that time I was a complete technophobe and anything to do with online work really scared me. I took steps and embraced it slowly and this enabled me to combine working and my love of travelling. I have also been able to thank my husband for ending our marriage as I can see that the ending was actually the start of a new beginning.
If you could offer people some words of wisdom what would it be?
Live life now as we are often stressed about the past and the future but we often do not enjoy life in the present moment. I see it all the time that people plan for when they are older, but life changes and people often regret not taking chances when they had them. Life will always present us with challenges and it is not about creating a perfect life but embracing what is. I always say it is not about stopping the storms but learning to dance in the rain!!
