When I started my entrepreneurial journey, I wasn’t entirely prepared for the emotional and mental rollercoaster it would become. Growing up as a first-generation Iranian-American, I learned resilience early in life. My family instilled in me the values of hard work, adaptability, and the courage to dream big. Those lessons became my foundation as I navigated the challenges of building businesses like Ameritex Movers, a trusted moving service in Houston and Dallas, and Miss Congeniality & Co., where we help businesses thrive through strategic marketing.

Entrepreneurship, to me, has never been just about profits or growth charts. It’s about the human connection, the learning curves, and the tiny, everyday wins that define the journey. Along the way, I’ve discovered a few truths that have helped me not only survive but also thrive in this demanding, yet rewarding, space.

Clarity begins with your "why"

Early on, I struggled with defining what success meant to me. Was it about building a large company, achieving financial independence, or something deeper? When I finally paused to reflect on my “why,” everything fell into place. Entrepreneurship is about empowerment. It’s about creating solutions, inspiring others, and proving that anyone, regardless of their background, can make a difference. Keeping this purpose at the center of my work has helped me stay grounded, even during the toughest days.

As the CEO of Ameritex Houston, it’s not just about providing top-tier moving services in Texas; it’s also about offering clients peace of mind throughout their relocation process. Our core values align with my personal mission of making an impact, whether through the dedication of our team or the personalized experience we provide. We believe every move, whether it’s a local Houston move or a long-distance transition, should be a stress-free experience, with the moving company treating clients’ belongings as their own.

Your well-being is your most important investment

I won’t pretend I always had the perfect work-life balance. In fact, there were moments when I pushed myself too hard, sacrificing my health in the process. I remember a particularly grueling week when I barely slept while overseeing two major projects. The result? Burnout—and the realization that I wasn’t helping anyone, least of all myself.

Now, I make a conscious effort to prioritize my health. Whether it’s a morning yoga session, a nutritious meal, or simply setting aside time to disconnect, I’ve learned that taking care of myself is non-negotiable. After all, how can you lead a business if you’re not functioning at your best? This is a principle I not only apply to myself but also encourage within the teams at Miss Congeniality & Co. and Ameritex Movers. In both companies, we emphasize the importance of maintaining a healthy work environment because a team that is well-balanced and energized can do its best work.

Failure isn’t fatal it’s a teacher

I can’t count the number of times I’ve stumbled in my career. There was the marketing campaign that didn’t land, the partnership that fell apart, and the product launch that flopped. In the moment, failure feels like a punch to the gut. But looking back, each setback taught me something invaluable.

I’ve learned to approach failure with curiosity instead of fear. What went wrong? What could I do differently next time? These questions have not only helped me grow but also instilled a sense of resilience I never knew I had. For instance, when I first started Ameritex Houston, there were growing pains in establishing our reputation. But each challenge, whether logistical or customer-related, was an opportunity to learn and evolve. It’s through these experiences that our services have become so refined.

Success is a team effort

As someone who used to believe I had to do everything myself, learning to delegate was a game-changer. I still remember the first time I hired someone to handle a task I was struggling to keep up with. It felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

Today, I surround myself with a team of talented individuals who share my vision. Whether it’s the operations staff at Ameritex Movers or the creatives at Miss Congeniality & Co., I know I’m not alone in this journey. Their dedication and expertise allow me to focus on what I do best, leading with purpose and strategy. Each of these teams plays a critical role in our success, from the meticulous attention to detail that makes Ameritex Movers a trusted name in Houston to the innovative marketing strategies that drive results for clients at Miss Congeniality & Co.

Celebrate the small wins

This is something I remind myself of daily. In a culture that glorifies “the hustle,” it’s easy to focus only on the big milestones, like revenue goals, market expansions, or awards. But I’ve learned that the small victories matter just as much.

Maybe it’s a heartfelt thank-you from a client, a process improvement that saves your team time, or simply making it through a challenging week. These moments add up, painting a bigger picture of progress and growth. Whether it’s a successful, stress-free move for a family in Houston or a small business reaching its first milestone with our guidance at Miss Congeniality & Co., every success is a step forward. It’s those steps that matter the most in the long run.

Embracing the journey

Entrepreneurship is not a straight path; it’s a winding road filled with highs, lows, and everything in between. What makes it worthwhile are the lessons you learn and the people you impact along the way.

As I reflect on my journey, I’m grateful for every experience, both good and bad, that has shaped me into the leader I am today. If there’s one piece of advice I could leave you with, it’s this: trust the process, stay true to your values, and don’t forget to enjoy the ride. In the end, success isn’t just about the destination; it’s about the journey and the person you become along the way.
