What inspired you to pursue opportunities in music licensing and professional production?

Ever since I was young, I have always had a passion for music. Over time, I realized how crucial music is to a number of things, including storytelling in media, from setting the tone in films to creating memorable brand identities in advertisements. Additionally, I’ve always been fascinated by the creative and technical process behind crafting a sound or score that aligns perfectly with a visual narrative.

Ultimately, my goal is to bridge my skills as a musician, composer, and producer to create impactful, emotionally resonant music that enhances storytelling in all forms of media. Whether through original compositions, sound design, or collaborations with filmmakers and brands, I am eager to contribute to the ever-evolving world of music in a meaningful way.

What is something unique about your approach to music production that sets you apart from others in the field?

Something unique about my approach in music production is my diverse background. Because I was trained both as a classical and jazz musician, there is far more variety in my musical interests and capabilities. Classical musicians learn to interpret complex works with emotional depth, while jazz musicians gain a deep understanding of groove, swing, and improvisation.

In my opinion, training in both styles makes it easier to transition between musical genres, collaborate with diverse artists, and adapt to different performance contexts, from orchestras to contemporary bands.

What is unique about your approach to blending genres or leading jazz ensembles that sets you apart as a musician?

My jazz experience has played a major role in bringing out my creative side as an artist. Jazz training strengthens improvisational abilities, enabling musicians to compose melodies on the fly and add unique flair to performances. This is a skill that very much complements the structured approach of classical music.

Additionally, both genres demand a strong grasp of music theory, including harmony, rhythm, and structure. Jazz adds an even deeper exploration of chord progressions, scales, and rhythms.

What is a habit or practice you follow regularly that you’d recommend to aspiring musicians or producers?

I believe it is extremely important to engage yourself musically every day, whether it is practicing an instrument, writing lyrics, or recording in a digital audio workshop. I believe that it is valuable to familiarize oneself in not just one, but many different genres. This includes listening to music too.

There are many styles of music I listen to on a daily basis. Some of my favorites include EDM, Reggae, Latin Jazz, Hip Hop, Metal, and Instrumentals, and I am constantly looking for ways I can blend these together in my work! Many people are hesitant to step out of their comfort zones and often this will prevent us from discovering what we are fully capable of. My best advice to producers and musicians is to take the time to explore different genres that you are less familiar with or comfortable with.

How do you incorporate new techniques, software, or styles into your music production and teaching methods?

It is not just useful, but mandatory that we keep up with the evolution of music and technology. I am constantly searching for new software and plugins that help me create better-quality work. Understanding the rapidly changing industry is also a key component. Streaming has shifted the focus from album sales to track-based consumption, with algorithms playing a crucial role in personalizing user experiences.

The development of AI now helps in mixing and mastering tracks, providing professional-quality results with tools like LANDR and iZotope. The internet and new technologies have not only revolutionized how music is experienced but also redefined the roles of creators and consumers. As these technologies continue to evolve, they promise even greater innovations while posing challenges that require thoughtful consideration.

What are the pros and cons of pursuing a career in music and creative arts, and how do you navigate them?

Pursuing a career in music and creative arts offers creative fulfillment, the freedom to express yourself and your vision, and the opportunity to grow artistically over time. This field also fosters meaningful connections and the ability to inspire and engage audiences, with diverse roles ranging from performance and teaching to production and composition.

However, there are many challenges, including financial instability due to inconsistent income, high competition that requires a distinct artistic voice, and potential work-life imbalances from demanding schedules. In order to thrive, artists should focus on building strong networks, learning business and marketing skills, leveraging technology for promotion and connection, and staying adaptable to industry changes.
