There are some of us that have made our resolutions or goals at the beginning of 2023. Whether it's keeping fit, eating healthy, starting a new business, a new relationship or perhaps ending one.

At times we can hang on far too long, particularly as we have normalised and become accustomed to our present realities, afraid of the unfamiliar and unaware that endings often signify new beginnings.

However, we must be mindful that if we do not take meaningful action on our goals – nothing changes if nothing changes!

Spring has finally arrived, the law of nature applies in terms of sowing and reaping. Many of us have been busy preparing our gardens, weeding out the weeds and the thorns that so often choke our plants. These weeds and thorns can often resemble those toxins, i.e., that unfulfilled relationship, dead-end job, or unresolved trauma that we held onto inhibiting our growth. And if we refuse to do the necessary shadow work in terms of pruning and weeding our personal lives, then it’s inevitable that we will be repeating last year’s story.

The onus is on us, we have complete autonomy over our lives, in terms of the choices and the decisions that we make today. Hence, we have a sense of responsibility and accountability. However, this cannot be achieved if we refuse to do the necessary work. Like the gardener, he or she must be equipped, in terms of preparing the soil, to ensure that there is development and growth. The bulbs that have been planted in the winter season will raise its head in the spring season. And if we are at the initial stages of planting, then we will inevitably see the produce of all planting in the summer season.

Undoubtedly, the question we should ask ourselves is what have we planted last season?
