Christy Little, Intuitive Artist

Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.

My name is Christy Little; I'm an abstract artist living in the magical mountains of Asheville, NC with my husband and our beloved furbaby. We are surrounded by Nature's beauty here, and I love that. It helps inspire my creativity. In addition to art, I am also super passionate about personal and spiritual growth for the positive impact it's had on my life.

Tell us about a pivotal moment in your life that brought you to where you are today.

That moment was several years ago when my husband and I went through really challenging times in both our personal lives and in our marriage.

We were living in our pains, not our passions at the time and it was making everything (figuratively) crumble around us. All signs were pointing to some big changes needing to be made. I knew those changes were going to take some really deep healing within myself to do so.

At that time I felt overwhelmingly unworthy. I doubted myself, and let insecurities turn me into a shell of myself. I was really unhappy, but I knew if I wanted to change I had to pick up the "pieces" and figure out how to help myself onto a higher path.

This led me (back) to meditation, a previous practice I had let fall to the wayside for many years. Meditating daily helped me quiet my anxious mind, learn true presence, and gave me a tool to navigate a pathway toward the true me.

How has your journey to healing related to your creativity?

The more I learned to let go of the insecurities, the unworthiness, and the doubt, the closer I was getting to my authenticity. Basically, I was stripping away all the garbage and getting into alignment.

I rediscovered my creativity through this time and I learned that it was my superpower – it was the thing that ignites me and gives me the ability to share a part of me unlike anything else I've ever been able to.

Can you tell me about your artistic background and what inspired you to start your own art business?

I have always been creative; my earliest memories have me with a pencil or crayon in my hand.

Art has gone through many stages of my life. I was trained in a multitude of mediums and styles, yet where I'm sitting right now feels soul-led. I've realized what a beautiful healing modality art is, and that this is a medium that I can utilize to not only heal myself but for others to heal as well.

It’s more than just slapping some paint on a canvas for me; I’m inspired to make art to help nurture the inner child within us all and to empower others to trust their intuition.

I hope that this work inspires others to feel joy, peace, and playful inspiration.

What was the biggest catalyst to begin creating the art that you do now?

My husband had a heart attack and that was the catalyst to a greater awakening within me. I had no words at the time to express how I was feeling so I picked up my art supplies and started moving all that I was feeling inside out onto canvas.

This period of my life completely changed how I approached art. It asked that I tap into a deeper part of myself – beyond technique and application. This was the first time I was merging creativity and my intuition together – and from that, I began to play with color in a style I never had explored before. It birthed this whole new process for me.

It felt so good, so right like I was being totally genuine with my creativity for the first time. There was so much healing through this – I found empowerment and strengthened my connection to my higher power.

In a state of surrender, I began learning to trust my intuition and find empowerment. Through this darkness, I found an incredible amount of light.

How do you approach the creative process for your artwork? Are there any unique techniques or materials you prefer to use?

My process is extremely intuitive. I have a concept when starting a painting, but it’s super important for me to connect to my heart’s center, my soul, and stay present to feel what the next step should be. There is quite a bit of spontaneity in my process and I really have to be in a true place of surrender. The next step evolves from the previous move of the paint.

It’s healing and freeing just in the process of it.

I see this approach as ultimate play – like we would do as kids. I pour, swipe, push, and blow paint all over the canvases; putting my fingers in the paint until I’m in love with the result. It is not about perfection or worrying about “mastery;” it’s about evoking energy and emotion that drives me.

What types of art do you specialize in, and are there particular themes or styles that define your work?

It’s what I like to call Energetic Art – lively color and movement created with love to open the heart. My work has an aliveness and a flow within it. I love using vibrant colors to evoke an emotional connection.

My heart is incredibly open from my personal journey and I seek to evoke those heart-opening energies within my paintings.

In healing what no longer served me, I opened my heart and I found more compassion. This strengthened my capacity to love and accept others.

My hope is that people can find that for themselves when viewing my work.

How do you engage with your audience and customers? Are there opportunities for art enthusiasts to connect with you or purchase your artwork?

I work almost completely online at the moment. I love the ability of a global reach through social media and building relationships 1:1. Buying art is an emotional experience and I love having conversations with my collectors to find the painting that speaks most to them.

As I am expanding my reach, local markets are also something I’m excited to add to my evolutionary outreach in the coming months.

People can purchase originals, have a custom painting created specifically for them, or collect one of my print or wearable art options through my website and by connecting with me on social media.
