I've been on a journey of peeling back the layers of fear, and today, I want to share with you the very essence of what fuels our fears and how to break free from its grasp. The thing is, when you get a grip on this one key aspect, you can kick procrastination, ditch wishful thinking, and finally stop dwelling on why you're not hitting your goals. Are you ready to hear it? I've spent countless hours contemplating this topic, and I'm thrilled to present it to you now.
I'm in the midst of a major transition, stepping into a new department of my business that truly excites me. But it's also brought up a whirlwind of emotions: fear, doubt, worry, and hope, anticipation, and excitement on the flip side. I haven't been this excited in ages about something that could potentially impact generations. That's what excites me the most. I wish I could lay out the entire plan for you right now, but I'll probably save that for a live webinar video. But for today, let's dive into what I've unearthed about fear. There are two main reasons for the existence of fear, and if you can think of a third, I'm all ears. I'm happy to add it to the mix and shake things up. These two factors are the foundation of fear in our lives today.
The first reason: Past experiences and external influences
The first reason fear takes root is due to past experiences or external influences that have left an unforgettable mark on our minds. It's the kind of fear that creeps up when you want to achieve more in your business, but there's that nagging voice in your head whispering caution. It might be a result of generations of indoctrination where you were warned to be cautious or face the consequences. Think about being a business owner and the fear of hiring new employees.
It's often born from the belief that you have to settle for less because you've had bad experiences with employees before. Maybe you've even heard horror stories from friends or family members, warning you about all the things that can go wrong when you hire someone. The fear of these experiences repeating themselves is the first reason fear lingers.
The second reason: Venturing into the unknown
The second reason fear takes hold is when you're attempting something you've never done before. It requires you to step into a new identity, much like I'm doing in my business. You need to become a person you haven't been before. It's making offers you've never made, creating a brand-new container for your audience, and mentoring and training on a scale you've never explored. This new venture sets off alarms in your brain, warning you that you don't know enough, you haven't done it before, and that everything will go awry. It's a lack of information, knowledge, and a roadmap that triggers this type of fear. In my entire journey in business and parenthood, I've realized that I've learned through experience. There was never a roadmap to follow. I've always operated based on what feels right to me. I experience it, articulate it in a way that makes sense to me, and then teach it from my perspective. That's why some people say I speak a different language. My content, programs, and everything in my business are a reflection of me. I've succeeded in various ventures, from nails and tanning to hair, ladies' fitness, a water massage bed, massage therapy, yoga, meditation, coaching, and even a boutique with jewelry and accessories. It all came from experience. I'd start with one idea, and if it felt right, I'd keep expanding. I didn't see this anywhere else; it was about fulfilling the needs I observed, taking risks, putting in the work, and trying new things.
Time feeds fear
Now, let's tackle the hidden enemy of fear - time. Waiting is the culprit that nourishes our fears. We've been conditioned to believe that waiting will make us more confident, wiser, and better prepared. But as I strongly emphasize, that's pure BS. Waiting is a deception, and it only feeds our fear. The longer we wait, the stronger our addiction to fear becomes.
The solution: Take action
The remedy for fear is taking action. I draw a parallel between action and traction. It's like big tires turning in the mud, pulling results towards you. Action is the force that brings results closer. Waiting, on the other hand, sustains the cycle of fear. My message is clear: don't wait for confidence, perfection, or ideal conditions. Instead, take action, even if it means falling down multiple times. Falling is not the same as failing; it's just a part of the process. Just like a child learning to walk, we fall, but we get back up and keep moving forward.
Breaking free from fear
To break free from the clutches of fear, follow this three-step process:
Presence: Reconnect with the present moment. Remind yourself that you are here, now.
Unveil: Question your fears, understand their origins, and recognize that they don't define you.
Navigating: Challenge the old habit of waiting and replace it with a commitment to take action, even when it's uncomfortable.
Remember, fear is not a personal flaw; it's a mechanism of the mind. The mind needs to know, but the business needs to grow. The only way to do that is to GO! By embracing the present, understanding your fears, and taking action, you can feel the fear and take action toward your goal anyway, knowing that your success is on its way.
Fear isn't a life sentence. It's a transient visitor that can be shown the door when we take action, embrace the present, and propel ourselves toward the results we desire.
So, heed the advice I've shared with you. Begin your journey, take action, fall forward, and inch closer to your goals with every step. As you replace the addiction to fear with an addiction to results, success will cease to be a distant dream and become your reality.
