Our heart tends to feel closed because of our past experiences where we’ve been hurt, abandoned, or betrayed. Many of us are on a journey of opening our hearts a little bit more because even though closing our hearts has kept us safe, we are aware of the discomfort that having our hearts closed brings to our life.
We want to connect on a deeper level, we want to attract love in our life or experience a deeper love and intimacy in our relationships, and we want to feel joyful, free, and expansive. All of these experiences come from having an open heart, but we just can’t seem to get past our past experiences that caused us to close up in the first place.
So, how do we open our hearts to unconditional love? There are six steps to this:
Create in your mind a vision of your future self who has in their life what you are wanting to experience. Observe what that person does, how their day unfolds, what they’re wearing, how they’re standing, how they’re walking. Get into the feeling of what it feels like in their life.
Give that feeling a color and imagine a ball of that color coming in from the top of your head and filling your entire body and integrating with you.
Imagine that you could send a signal out into the universe to have this reality manifest in your life right now, and notice any tension or doubts that arise in your mind when you do this.
Ask yourself “What is this really about?” Be in stillness until you start to get an answer.
Bring to mind the past version of you that is at the root of the tension and doubts.
Imagine an infinity loop of white light connecting your heart center with theirs, and as you circulate that infinity loop, allow any emotions and sensations to be felt and processed with the intention of reconnecting with this version of you and opening to unconditional love.
This process begins resolving the resistance you have to opening your heart. Another part to this is to start taking actions of self-expression, especially if it feels vulnerable. Part of opening your heart is allowing yourself to be vulnerable and express things you normally wouldn’t express. The key here is to take actions that are representative of freedom and not of self-defense. Identify all of the ways you’ve been taking actions to protect your heart and start taking new actions representative of having no need to protect your heart.
Start creating, start putting your thoughts, reflections, and insights out there into the world. Start expressing yourself in ways you wouldn’t allow yourself to. These new actions help to anchor you onto a new level of freedom and love, and as you continue to resolve resistance and continue to take new actions, you’ll find yourself more and more open to feeling and receiving unconditional love.
