How 3 Successful Entrepreneurs Grew Their Business On Clubhouse (+ You Can, Too)

For the past two months, I participated in a marathon room on Clubhouse that directly impacted more than 850,000 entrepreneurs worldwide. It changed the way I have been showing up in my business, generated tens of thousands of dollars of new client revenue, doubled my follower count on Instagram, challenged me to create healthy boundaries, inspired hundreds of pieces of content, and resulted in some friendships I would not have otherwise.

To me, this is the epitome of success in business – and my story isn’t unique. The same – or better – has occurred for countless other entrepreneurs, and I would like to share their stories with you. These are meant to be both insightful inspirational, whether you choose to leverage the power of Clubhouse or not. They are, in my opinion, a true celebration of agility and service in action.

The Opposite of a Backwards Step

I thought Clubhouse would be a backward step, having built a business with video on Facebook. I don’t even have a website. On the 14th of May, when it was released to Android users, a friend sent me an invite to Clubhouse. I heard of people growing accounts to 100,000+ followers in just a few months, so I decided to join and check it out.

I’ve been on Clubhouse for just two months with a following of about 800 people, and 95% are not people I would have met otherwise. I’ve also seen big names in the industry pouring real, immense value into audience members, and I have taken their lead. This is such a powerful business-building opportunity – and a way to push myself to develop even better content for paying clients.

As a result, I have had 30 people reach out for consults with 5 converted into clients, which is a 15% conversion rate – with NO pitching! This has created thousands of dollars of recurring revenue and pushed me to be playing my best hand all the time with clients and non-clients.

The next step is to monetize with a room where I intentionally sell. Imagine the possibilities there. Now, that’s powerful.

I Broke Free from Homelessness in Less Than 30 Days

In February 2021, I was getting divorced, lost my job, and became homeless. I had to figure out how to make money quickly, and I knew that applying for a new job would take months. Even now, nearly 6 months later, my unemployment paperwork and compensation haven’t come through.

So, I took my phone and developed a clear message that I knew would stop the scroll, which was “I help women entrepreneurs save 20 hours per week through social media marketing. Let me manage your social media so you can get back to what you’re amazing at.” I joined Clubhouse, added this to my bio, and networked like crazy. Shortly, I was invited to teach a class on growing and networking at Clubhouse. I taught different topics for a week straight, and the DMs started flooding my inbox. I had 10 discovery calls, closed half of them, and made $10,000. Since then, I’ve created recurring revenue from retainer clients and even landed a partnership with a growing skincare company. This platform has changed my life.

We Began a Movement + True Community

I started The Black Doll Affair on Meetup, but I wanted more of a global feeling without the division created in our community – what we refer to as playgrounds – by zip codes. So, we moved to a Facebook page, growing to 10,000 followers quickly and now at over 60,000 followers, scheduling meetup-type events directly from the page. Once pages became pay-to-play and more changes started happening on Facebook, it was clear we needed another shift to continue growing and reach a global audience in a meaningful way.

In May of 2021, I discovered Clubhouse. The answer to my community’s communication problem, I wasted no time asking my members to join us for audio events on the app. Since then, we’ve grown to more than 1,000 new members in The Black Doll Affair Clubhouse. I’m very excited to report that our Porcelain Pal doll membership (for non-black women) has grown in numbers we’ve not seen in our 15 year history, and e-commerce sales soared over last quarter! Clubhouse has been a pleasant surprise I didn’t see coming!
