Everyone keeps telling you that you have all this potential to bring to the surface. You know it, you feel it, yet you get frustrated about it. That annoying noise inside your brain just becomes too much, too loud, too unwanted. Sometimes you can’t even bring yourself to shut out the negativity. It somehow finds a way to creep into your positively-conditioned brain.
Was all that hard work in vain? When you were giving it your best shot to reprogram your mind, to reconnect with your authentic self while shattering your old patterns into pieces? As you stood on top of those pieces, laughing at your old beliefs, did you see how it would come back one day to bite you in the butt?
Of course, you didn’t. You were not supposed to.
You were meant to be focusing on your potential instead. At least, that’s what everyone kept telling you. So you did. And you ignored the negativity as much as you could. But what if that negativity was the key for you to solve the puzzle about your current emotional state? I know you’re not depressed. You’re not even sad. What you actually are is impatient. Impatient about seeing all the new pieces come together. Clearly, you didn’t shatter the old ones just to watch them lie there in an unnoteworthy way.
You wanted to trust your potential so badly
You didn’t think it would just cosy up in the farthest corner of your soul’s warehouse. By no means! You never wanted it to be wasted. But somehow, it is just about to pull a blanket on itself while dimming the light on the nightstand.
What do you say in such a scenario? Do you start yelling with rage trembling in your voice? Or do you gently sit down next to it and ask why it’s better under that blanket? You’re probably trying to convince yourself right now that you’d choose the gentle way. But in that rigid moment, your impatience might just get the best of you. The new pieces are nowhere to be seen and all this potential is just chilling under that blanket. All this hard work you’ve been putting in should make a difference about now, right?
Yet nothing happens. You carry on glaring at it with raised eyebrows but you get no reactions in return. Were they all lying to you? Have they tried to scam you in some ways with all this positive mindset thing? Absolutely not. First, you had to learn how to start navigating around this game. This game you might call life.
Your life is not trying to shatter you
Remember, shattering things is your job. You are not here to suffer, to suffocate or struggle. Even when your potential decides to cosy up under the blanket. Especially then. The quicker you realise that those rigid moments are serving your purpose in a constructive way, the easier it becomes to allow your potential to take a day off.
You couldn’t seriously expect that you’ll be optimistic, positive and full of potential every single day? You’re human. No matter how much time you invested in your personal development, you’ll have days when you simply want to disconnect from everything and not care about pressing issues or trivial matters. Those days are not happening because you are wasting your potential. They are not even due to the negative thoughts that found a sneaky way into your mind. Those days are there to teach you a little bit more about patience. To show you what you sow, you’ll reap a little later.
When the shattered pieces just won’t disappear, remember that you’re on a life-long journey. Sometimes it takes a while to start harvesting. So every time your wasted potential starts knocking on the door, take a second look. Is it really hidden in the farthest warehouse of your soul or is it quietly taking a day off?
How you’ll react is entirely up to you. Yelling or gently sitting down. It’s your choice. Just like everything else in this game called life. So choose wisely.
