Chris was born and raised in Manchester, UK. He is currently thirty-nine years old. When Chris was twenty-three, he experienced his first psychotic episode, which changed his life forever. What followed was depression, which then escalated into suicidal thoughts, leading him to a motorway bridge—facing the ultimate question: does he stay, or does he go? That was the thought running through his mind.

Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.
Hello! My name is Chris, and I’m a creative soul with a passion for music, writing, and producing. I’m someone who believes in the power of voices—both internal and external—and I try to live authentically and help others do the same. I’ve recently written a book called Guided by Voices and I’m currently working on my second book, My Lucifer, which explores some of the deeper, more psychological sides of human nature.
Music is a huge part of my life. I love songwriting and vocals, and I’m working on my first album, Voices Unveiled, which will include songs like “Heaven in the Ashes” and “Guided by Voices.”
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my cat, Jasper, who’s a playful white cat with black dots. I’m also someone who loves a good night out, whether it’s going to the cinema or just enjoying the vibe of the city. Family is important to me too—I’m close with my mum, and we often spend time together watching movies like Bridget Jones’s Diary (I’m a huge Hugh Grant fan!).
On a personal note, I find that balance is key to my life. I love a good cup of coffee (especially with a bit of chocolate), and I’m a big fan of swimming, saunas, and tea. I’m always reflecting on ways to improve myself and help others do the same, which is part of why I love writing and creating music.
What makes me unique is my ability to connect with different mediums—whether it’s through words, music, or visuals—and use them to tell stories that inspire and help others on their own journeys.
How do you address misconceptions about homosexuality within religious communities, particularly in the context of your own experiences?
The Challenge of Reconciling Roman Catholic Upbringing with Sexual Orientation
• Internal Conflict: Growing up in a Roman Catholic environment, many individuals are taught traditional beliefs about sexuality. The Church’s teachings may not align with someone’s sexual orientation, creating an inner struggle.
• Feelings of Guilt or Shame: Because the Catholic faith has historically not supported LGBTQ+ rights, those who identify as LGBTQ+ might feel guilty or ashamed of their sexual orientation, thinking it goes against religious principles.
The Impact of These Experiences
• Self-Reflection: Some individuals go through a period of questioning, where they wrestle with both their faith and their identity. This process can be painful but also deeply transformative.
• Seeking Support: For many, reaching out to supportive communities—whether LGBTQ+ groups or others who have shared similar experiences—becomes an important step toward self-acceptance.
How These Experiences Shape Advocacy Work
• Redefining Spirituality: After navigating these internal conflicts, some individuals might find new ways to practice their faith, focusing on love, acceptance, and personal spirituality rather than strict doctrine.
• Advocacy for Inclusivity: Because of their own journey, many people become strong advocates for LGBTQ+ rights within religious communities. They often use their personal stories to advocate for inclusivity, stressing that people of all sexual orientations should be accepted within faith spaces.
• Push for Dialogue and Understanding: Their experiences may also inspire them to facilitate conversations between faith-based communities and the LGBTQ+ community, striving for mutual understanding and compassion.
In Summary
• The process of reconciling one’s sexual orientation with a Catholic upbringing can be challenging, but it often leads to personal growth. This growth drives many individuals to become advocates for acceptance and inclusivity, working to break down barriers and foster understanding between faith and LGBTQ+ communities.

In what ways do you believe your story can inspire others facing similar challenges related to mental health and sexual orientation?

Tell us about a pivotal moment in your life that brought you to where you are today.
A pivotal moment in my life came when I decided to stop hiding parts of myself and started embracing my true identity, both in terms of my mental health and sexual orientation. For years, I struggled with feeling like I didn’t fit in, constantly battling internal conflicts and external expectations. There was a point when the weight of trying to meet others’ standards became unbearable, and I realised that the only way to move forward was to be completely honest with myself.
This decision wasn’t easy and didn’t happen overnight. It took a lot of self-reflection, vulnerability, and courage. I had to let go of the fear of rejection and the stigma associated with mental health and being true to who I am. But once I took that step, it was like a weight was lifted. I found strength in embracing my journey, and that shift empowered me to pursue my passions without shame.
This moment changed everything—it gave me the clarity and confidence to build a life that reflects who I truly am. It’s also inspired my work, whether it’s through music, writing, or supporting others who face similar struggles. Now, I believe that embracing our authentic selves is the key to finding peace and purpose, and I’m proud to share that message with others.
