Tell me about your professional background.
I would love to! Before becoming an online entrepreneur, I spent 15+ years working as a marketing, communications, and PR leader. Although I always enjoyed what I did, something changed once I became a mom. I wanted to make a more profound impact in the world and connect with that women who struggled to take care of themselves and place their mental wellness at the forefront of everything they do. I grew up with a mom who did precisely that, and I dedicate my mission to helping those who feel guilty once they become a mom to prioritize their needs, wants, and dreams. I completed all my health and life certifications, started a YouTube channel, invested in coaches and mentors, and went all into founding Self-Care Journey Holistic Wellness. I took it as a sign to step up during a global pandemic towards my true purpose, creating a 90-day self-care system to serve the do-it-all women, restore alignment and build a strong mind and body to re-ignite their inner spark and reclaim their time, energy, and joy.
What made you want to get into the mental health and personal development field?
There are so many life lessons and personal development discoveries that I wished the school system had taught us. I struggled with self-body image, limiting beliefs, and scarcity mindset, which play a huge part in some of the habits I created. It took many years of unlearning to understand that the way I was thinking was skewed. I threw myself into personal development to understand a new way of thinking. I invested in mentors and did a lot of deep inner work to finally understand what it means to be happy, healthy, and beautiful from the inside out. I wanted to devote what I learned to helping other women appreciate themselves and harness their self-care power no matter how chaotic life gets. My mom didn't prioritize self-care or her health once she became a mom, so I was determined to change this for myself when I became a mom and share how other women can do it too. To prioritize their mental wellness (aka self-care) and live in alignment with their true self with less stress, frustration, and guilt.
What has been your favorite aspect of this work?
I've been fortunate to attract my dream clients. Each one of them has inspiring lives and stories. It's been amazing to witness them discover their superpowers. I love seeing them transform from not believing something is possible for them to witnessing their growth and feeling unstoppable near the end of the program. It is the greatest satisfaction to give them this hope to have them think that anything is possible and that they are in complete control.
Can you explain what you do and what a typical session is like from start to finish?
Every week is a different training of my Self-care System. I used many of the various Neuro-Linguistic Programming modalities I experienced and learned from my mentors, such as shadow work, visualizations, EFT, anchoring, etc., to help my clients get to the root of their subconscious programming. We usually meet on zoom for 60mins, and we always begin each session with a grounding exercise. We then review the action work given to them during the week, and I then share what I like to call a "breakthrough lesson" that walks them through each of the stages in my Self-Care System:
Self-Love
Elevating Your Thoughts
Lean in on Nutrition
Fuel Your Body
Calm Your Mind
Activate Your Strength
Reset Your Cycle
Embody 2.0 version of you
What sort of health challenges can this be effective for and why?
In today's modern world, women indirectly wear multiple hats at the expense of their health and well-being. They face stress, frustration, and burnout in a rush against time to complete all their to-dos, life goals, and responsibilities. They strive to do it all and have it all with no help to social media showing perfect highlights from flawless women, that they leave minimal self-care to themselves and are riddled with guilt that their time is not productive when they do. I think the pandemic amplified this for everyone. What is clear to me is that to show up as your best self to others, you have to become your best self first. However, many women have also conditioned themselves to stay small, follow social norms, and remain below the imaginary glass ceiling their subconscious has placed for themselves. My mission is to help women break through that and elevate their self-worth to prioritize self-care, self-growth, and self-health to find their best selves.
How can it be supportive in overall healing and well-being?
I help women cultivate self-love as the foundation of building a self-care strategy. When they understand the core of who they are, they can begin to heal from a place of love versus fear, shame, or punishment. They can start to understand the root of their self-sabotage that has been happening on auto-pilot and allow themselves to act in alignment with what they need to do to take care of themselves. They understand that to thrive from within means letting go of false expectations, forgiving themselves, and harnessing their power to live the life they truly love. Once they have re-ignited their inner spark, the transformation is remarkable.
Is there a technique or modality in your practice that you have found the most beneficial to the people you work with?
I use several neuro-linguistic programming techniques, visualization, breathing exercises, anchoring, and emotional freedom techniques. Using a combination of these has allowed my clients to tap into their highest self and release any emotional distress they may be feeling. One of my favorites is "anchoring" Anchoring. My client creates a kinesthetic anchor that helps the body memorize a powerful, empowered response. The anchor is used repeatedly to make the empowered response at will till it becomes a habit. It is often a repetitive and time-based process working on the neuroplasticity of our brains.
Besides holistic health, do you have any universal health and well-being tips that you'd like to share?
"Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving" – Albert Einstein.
My parents taught me that learning is a gift, and the more you learn, the more you grow. You can never learn too much, and mastering anything requires us always to keep moving, learning, and growing. It took me some life experiences to finally realize this, but this curiosity and newfound growth mindset have stretched my life beyond my greatest beliefs and dreams.
What resources would you recommend? (books, podcasts, websites that you've found helpful).
I have too many, but some of the ones that come to mind right now that I keep coming back to are Atomic Habits by James Clear and Untamed by Glennon Doyle. It would have to be On Purpose with Jay Shetty for podcasts. All of these have changed my life dramatically.
What exciting projects are you working on?
I really want to take my online program Survive to Thrive to continue serving clients all over the world, virtually, and one day in-person at a retreat would by my dream. It’ll help take women deeper into their self-care journeys, self-worth, and self-growth to harness their power and reclaim their best selves.
I also have a book in me that is unfolding all about redefining self-care for the modern mom, building boundaries true to thelves, and breaking the invisible glass ceilings that their subconscious has accepted.
I have a lot of exciting things ahead that I can’t wait to share. Until then, you can always connect with me. I provide a complimentary self-care wellness audit to get women started on their deep self-care journeys.
