Leadership is not just about holding a position or managing a team. It is about creating a ripple effect that inspires, connects, and builds trust. My journey, from wearing the crown of Ms. Texas to leading three businesses, Ameritex Movers and Miss Congeniality & Co., has taught me a lot about what true leadership looks like. I have come to realize that leadership is not a one-size-fits-all formula. Instead, it is an evolving practice that requires a blend of purpose, adaptability, and deep connections with people.

Throughout my career, I have drawn strength from my experiences in pageantry, community service, and entrepreneurship. Each has shaped my leadership style and reinforced the idea that, at the heart of leadership, lies service to others. Below are some of the most valuable lessons I have learned along the way.

Leadership is about service, not titles

When I competed in pageantry, my platform focused on service. I have carried that same mindset into everything I do. As the CEO of Ameritex Movers, our mission goes beyond simply moving boxes. We are moving lives. It is about creating peace of mind for our clients during one of life’s most stressful transitions and investing in our team to ensure they feel supported, valued, and equipped for success.

At Ameritex Houston, we live by core values of clear communication, integrity, and accountability, which guide us in serving others effectively. It is not just about offering reliable and efficient moving services in Houston or beyond. It is about fostering a supportive environment for everyone involved.

It does not matter whether you are running a multinational company or leading a community project. The principle remains the same. True leadership comes from serving those around you, not from commanding authority. When you invest in your team and your clients, the results speak for themselves.

Being genuine is the ultimate leadership advantage

During my time in pageantry, I learned that authenticity is everything. In those moments, I realized how important it is to be true to yourself. Judges, audiences, and team members can always sense when someone is being inauthentic. That lesson has been vital as I have transitioned into the world of business.

As the leader of Ameritex Movers, my approach to building relationships is centered around honesty and trust. Our clients, whether in Houston or Dallas, know that when I speak to them, it is real. I do not just see them as customers or employees. I see them as partners in our shared journey. The more authentic we are with each other, the stronger the connections, and the more successful we become. At the end of the day, people do not follow titles. They follow authenticity.

Adaptability makes success sustainable

In pageantry, things change constantly, whether it is the competition format or public expectations. The key to thriving is being adaptable and resilient. I have carried this adaptability into my businesses, especially with Ameritex Houston. Over the years, we have pivoted our strategies to keep pace with changing market conditions and client needs.

Whether it is embracing sustainable practices, enhancing our moving services, or expanding our service areas to Dallas, each decision has required a willingness to evolve. What has kept us moving forward is our ability to adapt to whatever comes our way. Business landscapes change, people change, and you have to be willing to learn, unlearn, and relearn as you go. In leadership, there is no room for stagnation. You have to move with the times.

Leadership is about building a strong community

When I first entered pageantry, it was not just about competing for a crown. It was about the camaraderie and the shared sense of purpose I felt with other contestants. That sense of community stayed with me and became one of the most important elements of my leadership philosophy.

At Ameritex Movers, we are not just a team; we are a family. That feeling of connection extends to our clients, partners, and the communities we serve. Whether we are helping a family settle into a new home in Houston or assisting clients with a local move in Dallas, it is not just about doing a job. It is about creating lasting relationships built on trust. We have seen time and time again that the businesses that thrive are the ones that invest in community, not just within their team but with their clients, partners, and the people they interact with every day.

Empower others and watch them shine

If there is one thing I have learned about leadership, it is that true leaders do not shine because they are at the center of attention. They shine because they make others feel seen and valued. I have always tried to take a step back, especially in my role at Miss Congeniality & Co., and let my team take the lead on their own ideas. That is when the magic happens.

At Ameritex Movers, it is the same philosophy. Whether it is empowering our movers to take ownership of a move or helping clients feel empowered through clear communication, leadership is about making others feel confident in their own abilities. When you help others shine, you elevate the entire team and, ultimately, your business.

Lead with purpose and stay grounded

At the heart of every leadership decision I make is a simple question: What is the purpose behind it? That sense of purpose drives everything I do at Ameritex Movers and Miss Congeniality & Co. Whether I am mentoring a young leader or guiding a team through a new project, I always return to our core values of integrity, clear communication, and accountability.

I have learned that leadership is not just about what you achieve; it is about who you become in the process and the impact you have on others. When you lead with a clear sense of purpose, it is not just the business that benefits, but the people around you as well.

The power of purpose-driven leadership

Reflecting on my path from pageantry to entrepreneurship, the one constant has been a deep sense of purpose and a commitment to empowering others. Leadership is a journey, not a destination. It is about learning, evolving, and making a difference along the way. Whether it is providing a stress-free moving experience for our clients or empowering fellow entrepreneurs to grow through Miss Congeniality & Co., the mission remains the same.

To anyone aspiring to lead, embrace the challenges, remain authentic, and always prioritize service. When you lead with integrity, communication, and accountability, you will not only find success, but you will also inspire those around you to find theirs.
