Chris Nicol, Physical Performance Specialist
Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better.
My name is Chris Nicol, and I’m based in Scotland. The northeast, to be precise. I’m a physical performance specialist with a strength and conditioning degree. I’m also a personal trainer who is level 3 qualified. In the future, I’m looking to add mental performance coaching to my business. I also conduct physical performance seminars for sports clubs in person or online. I have a unique mental health story which inspired me to change my life through many things.
Things I do in my spare time are listening to podcasts, reading books, spending time with family, going to the gym, travelling to different places and enjoying life. I also have various pets in the household which including a fish, a dog, and a cat.
What inspired you to start a business focused on physical performance and sports therapy?
It’s always been a passion of mine to train in physical performance and how it can change lives for the better. I want to have a world impact on health for the better. I’m also keen on helping sports clubs and athletes perform better in their sports through physical performance and educating them on better performance.
How do you tailor your approach to meet the unique needs of each client?
My approach to clients is unique to the individual with their goals and needs for better performance. I will conduct a fitness consultation for the client, and then we will assess the markers for improvement. Each client will have different goals they want to achieve so they are all different. The program will be devised after a fitness testing session in the gym. I use various training methods, such as resistance training, cardiovascular training, and flexibility training. It will all depend on the individual client’s goals.
Can you share a success story where your techniques made a significant impact on someone’s performance?
One of my clients, who is a runner, has been training with me for a lot of months now, and she has recently taken 8 minutes off her half marathon finish time. She has also lifted over her body weight in an Olympic Style Deadlift 65kg.
How do you stay updated on the latest developments in physical therapy and sports science?
I’m always looking at the latest and relevant scientific articles in physical training and sports science. I also look for and take relevant courses that would benefit the people and my business. Some companies I would like to learn from are Science for Sport, Strength and Conditioning Education, and Be World Class.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their fitness or rehabilitation journey?
Anyone starting their fitness or rehab journey takes it one step at a time and doesn’t rush the process. Listen to your coach.
Tell us about a pivotal moment in your life that brought you to where you are today.
A pivotal moment for me would be me realising I had to change my life for the better and pursue my passions to succeed.
