When I was first diagnosed with Graves’ disease, I was determined to prove the doctors wrong. They insisted that my condition would only be manageable with medication, but I knew there had to be a different way. My journey truly began when I found a compassionate doctor, Dr. Lee, at the North Richmond Clinic in Richmond, CA, who not only supported me using holistic medicine but also encouraged my transition to a plant-based diet. This duality of holistic and modern medicine became the cornerstone of my healing.

How I first experienced energy healing
I remember my first experience with energy work like it was yesterday. I was feeling drained and overwhelmed, and my partner suggested we go to the movies to lift my spirits. Before I left, my aunt came over to drop off some fruits, veggies, and spring water. She looked at me with concern and asked if I would be open to a quick energy session to help me feel better. I said yes.
She guided me to sit down on the couch, close my eyes, and take deep breaths. As she worked on my energy field, I felt an immediate sense of relaxation and lightness. The heaviness I had been carrying started to lift. Though I did not see visions or colors, I felt a subtle shift, a calm energy washing over me. When she finished, I noticed a significant change in my mental and physical state. I felt clearer, lighter, and grateful.
My aunt and I spoke about having more sessions to work on my energetic body, and in return, I would help her with her monthly women's circles, where she taught meditation and how to connect with divine inner wisdom. What made this experience so powerful was my openness to it. I was not resisting. Spirituality was not foreign to me, as my family is a blend of Christianity, Buddhism, Spiritualism, and more. I realized that healing does not have to be one way or the other, it can be both. Looking back, I now understand that my willingness to embrace different forms of healing was a pivotal part of my journey.
My first encounter with sound healing
I discovered sound healing by chance, truly the luck of the draw. My mother mentioned a sound bath event she saw on Facebook happening in San Francisco. Intrigued, I decided to go, only to find out that my mom could not make it and no one else could join me. I was scared to go alone, but I felt an unexplainable pull to be there.
When I walked into the space, it was like entering another world. Soft music played, the scent of rose and Palo Santo lingered, and sound bowls were lined up in the center of the room. As the session began, the instructor guided us through a breathwork exercise that was so powerful it left my hands in a crab hand position, a sign of the intense energy moving through me.
As the sound bowls played, I felt a surge of energy in my chest and stomach, and tears began to flow. I tried to hold back, fearing judgment, but my body insisted on releasing the pain and confusion I had been holding. I surrendered to the sound, letting it wash over me. By the end of the session, I felt like a different person, lighter, clearer, and more aligned. It was in that moment that I knew I had to learn more about sound healing.
Realizing my purpose: Sharing healing with others
I was reluctant to share energy healing and sound therapy with others at first. I struggled to be vulnerable, especially about my health and spiritual journey. But I felt a strong calling to start a blog and write about my experiences with Graves’ disease and the healing practices that were transforming my life, in addition to modern medicine. Writing became a form of release, like journaling before I even understood what it was.
The more I shared, the more messages I received from people who resonated with my story. Some asked about energy healing, while others shared their struggles with similar health conditions. It was then that I realized my story was not just for me; it was meant to help others heal too. That realization deepened my commitment to this path and gave me the courage to share my gifts more openly.
A message for those seeking healing
If there is one thing I have learned, it is that healing is possible, even when it feels out of reach. Energy healing and sound therapy taught me that the mind, body, and spirit are deeply connected. My journey showed me that healing can come in many forms and that being open to those possibilities is the first step.
You do not have to walk this path alone. If you are feeling lost, I encourage you to explore these modalities with an open heart. Healing is not a straight line; it is a winding path of growth, release, and transformation. Your story is still being written, and every step forward is a chapter of light and love.
In loving memory of my angel, Li’keith K. Jackson (01/28/1987–05/19/2020), who held me through the darkest of days and continues to guide me with love and light.
