Do you feel that your abilities are innate and unchangeable? No matter how much you desire to qualify for that new job position or a highly talented school, you just don't believe you are able to achieve the skills and requirements. Is it possible for everyone else to make these achievements but you? Well, I have some exciting news for you! In this article, you will discover how to get on the road to a growth mindset and how to build your resilience. You deserve to feel empowered and able to make growth in every part of your life.

What is a growth mindset?
A growth mindset is believing that your own abilities and talents can be developed through hard efforts, learning, and being persistent rather than being innate. In fact, according to references on brain plasticity, the connection between neurons can be rewired through experience, leading to sufficient change in the mindset. Therefore, individuals who are more likely to shift perspectives on challenges, learning, and work effort can more easily begin to alter their ways of thinking. For instance, failure. Most people view failure as something negative and fearful. As for someone with a growth mindset, they take failure as a growth opportunity to learn from and to advance.
4 obvious signs you lack a growth mindset
Those who lack a growth mindset constantly seek validation from others. Because you don't have confidence in your own abilities and skills, you only feel successful when others acknowledge your accomplishments.
Individuals that are afraid of failure. With a fixed mindset, making mistakes is the worst thing that could happen. It makes you feel incompetent and teaches your mind to avoid mistakes by all means. Therefore, they tend to fall into the comfort trap, doing only what's comfortable.
Avoidance of challenges. A person that may lack a growth mindset will shy away from projects that require a challenge or may lead to failure. This negative habit often keeps you living small and lacking personal development. You will avoid the task completely because you fear taking on difficult activities.
Those that lack a growth mindset often struggle with self-doubt. You simply don't feel confident to trust yourself and your abilities. You constantly play it small and can't picture bigger for yourself. Your ideas will feel mediocre compared to others. You may even find yourself playing the victim in every opportunity.
How can you develop a growth mindset?
1. Change your perspective on failure
A growth mindset shifts your perspective on failure. Instead of viewing failure as a sign of inability, you should view it as an opportunity for growth and learning. Having the ability to change the way you view the world, yourself, and your efforts not only reduces stress and anxiety, but also fosters personal growth! Changing your perspective doesn't just stop at your mindset; you will see significant improvements in relationships and financial stability as well.
Embrace challenges
When dealing with an unfamiliar or tough issue, face it head-on and be determined to come out on top, not allowing the situation to undermine you. View challenges as a journey by not trying to control the experience, but soaking up the experience as a growth opportunity. Use that time to be reflective by asking yourself reflection questions such as, “What went well?” “What didn't go so well?” “What did I learn from this experience?” “What are my strengths and weaknesses?” Doing so will put facing challenges in a more positive light!
3. Avoid seeking the approval of others
Though positive feedback is great, seeking the approval of others can be damaging to your self-esteem. Sometimes when we look for the approval of others, we tend to make it our objective to be accepted. This often leaves you comparing yourself to others and not feeling good enough if they may be further along in the journey than you. Taking in positive feedback is acceptable, but keep in mind that this is your journey, and it's okay if it differs from others' journeys. Everyone's story is uniquely created for them, so don't waste time downing yourself by looking at others' stories.
4. Cultivate a sense of purpose
Determine exactly what it is that you want out of life. In other words, find your why. Ask yourself, “Why am I doing this, and what are my values?” Doing so will give you clarity on the direction you should be moving forward to. After you've discovered your why, now it's time to nurture and strengthen your sense of meaning. Focus on what needs to be done to reach the end goal.
5. Set effective goals
To have an even higher success rate, learning how to set effective goals is a game changer. Let's refer to the SMART goals framework: your goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. Using this method provides you with clarity, organization, and motivation, leading to success and accountability. You'll not only notice a significant amount of growth but also build your confidence.
6. Celebrate the small wins
Be kind to yourself by focusing on the process and your efforts rather than just the end results. Giving yourself a moment to recognize the progress being made and focusing on the positive aspects of your achievements can help you appreciate your progress and positive mind development. When making a habit, you'll notice a boost in confidence and increased self-efficacy.
Why is a growth mindset important?
Having a growth mindset is not only important for self-development but also for your well-being. According to researchers, individuals with a growth mindset are less likely to develop mental illness and high stress levels compared to those with a fixed mindset. You will build resilience by being persistent when facing difficulties because you view them as an opportunity.
