Success can be an overused word, especially in today's world where it can be perceived that there are only certain things that can make you successful (money, car, travel, etc). This overuse can make you follow those external trends which ultimately can lead you away from what success means for you. Below I want to support you in DEFINING SUCCESS FOR YOURSELF – it's A-one sure-fire way to lead you to the path of happiness and fulfillment. When defining and creating your version of success do…

Set a strong Vision

Be super clear with what you want, why that's what you want and the commitments you are willing to make to achieve your vision. Setting solid foundations for your vision and ultimately success always needs to be YOURS, not what society tells you.

In this article, you can learn more about the importance of not allowing other people's definitions of success to trigger you or take you away from your vision and intentions.

Know your boundaries and stick to them

You probably don't need me to explain this one to you, but knowing what you will or will not accept from others is a pivotal way to protect your energy.

You will also see the importance of energy in taking action to move you forward in any element of your life/business/relationships - hence the need to protect it at all times.

Take action

No matter how you have defined "success" it takes some form of action to create it. I am not saying you need to have a project plan for everything you have defined as success; but what I am telling you is that every time you feel a "nudge" or know that doing the thing that is in your mind or your heart is going to take you closer to your vision and success - then get it done!

Celebrate your progress

Don't get hung up with arriving at the destination you have called "success", corny as it may seem but trust me from the many people I have seen and supported in their quest for success they all have one thing in common – and that is that they have savoured the moments of pause and reflection which have helped them to see how far they have come. I mean, can you imagine travelling from London to Venice on the Orient Express and missing Paris?? That's what happens when you don't give yourself time to enjoy the journey.

And please try not to…

Compare and talk negatively about yourself and your progress

Your version of success is yours and cannot be seen anywhere else or compared to anything in the world. It is so hard not to get drawn into the showreels of social media, and because of that it is really easy to fall into the trap of thinking you should be further on than you are – the next time you find yourself comparing your day 1 to someone else's year 5 then I implore you to stop and remind yourself that your journey is yours to be enjoyed.

Put other's success before your own

If you have even an ounce of people-pleasing in you (which I believe we all do) then this one is a must…

How many times have you found yourself giving away your time, energy, and resources to others without giving to yourself first? Remember that saying "you can't give from an empty cup" well if creating your version of success fills you up then that is exactly what you must do to be able to give to others in the longer term.

So, in summary – your success is yours to define, create and savour – there is no rule book and there isn't anyone who can define and do it for you!
