Beth Jackson, Psychotherapist/Counsellor and Coach

Tell us more about you.

I started off my working life within education, however after having experienced different significant bereavements I became interested in supporting those who had experienced this and let’s be honest- that will be all of us. After qualifying as a psychotherapist (counsellor if you prefer!) I volunteered for different charities but gradually found my heart was being pulled towards being a therapist full-time. So, I took the plunge and began my own business.

What drives/inspires you?

So many things. I’m inspired by people I know, my family, people I have lost, people I read about and very regularly by my clients. We all have times when things are difficult. For many of us this can come from childhood and learning to work through this and bear the scars is so challenging. Personally, I also had cancer over 10 years ago, which was, of course, terrifying but also a reminder of the frailty of life. People are so resilient, and to work with clients who want to make changes and improve their lives is an enormous privilege. Witnessing that inspires me every day.

Who do you target your business towards?

Within counselling, obviously, I have a real heart for grief work. Also, I have found more and more that clients need support with anxiety. I work mainly in this area now as well as with self-esteem, as in a busy, rushing world, it is so easy to lose sight of who you are and what it is you need to be happy and content. We only get one life, so enjoying it is vital. I also work a lot within relationships including couples. Again, there are so many pressures on couples and it is easy to quickly move into communication habits which don’t work well. Looking at communication, recognising patterns and changing this is so powerful. I’m also qualified as a rewind trauma therapist, so I work within this area, too, seeing life-changing results.

Within coaching, I am also an executive, life and therapeutic coach and love seeing clients transform their thinking, careers and lives.

Tell us about how you work as a therapist and coach

As a person-centred therapist I ensure that I provide unconditional personal regard – so I will accept and value you as an individual. I am congruent – being honest and present there with you and I will show empathy – trying to see things from where you are. I offer a non-judgemental and safe place to talk and unravel things. Just by having someone there with you to ask questions and support is often all a client needs to make sense of things and move forwards with their life.

This is similar with being a coach, although it is focused on the now and the future. By questioning, support, and space to explore ideas and solutions, the client often is surprised by the answers they come up with.
