Have you ever been subjected to disrespectful behaviour from a colleague or superior? Recall the impact on you and the valuable time lost in addressing the issue.
The presence of even a small number of rude coworkers can disproportionately drain your energy and consume a significant portion of your time. In a survey by Porath and Christine Pearson, a management professor at Arizona State University, nearly 800 individuals across 17 industries were questioned.
Incivility & workflow
The findings revealed that when employees feel disrespected, their performance suffers.
A staggering 80% of respondents reported losing work time due to concerns about the incident, 63% wasted time attempting to avoid the offender, 50% intentionally reduced their work hours, and 66% experienced a decline in their overall performance.
Furthermore, 25% admitted to venting their frustrations on customers, and 12% went as far as quitting their jobs due to incivility.
Recent research demonstrates a decreasing tolerance for abuse among individuals, signalling a new era with less space for jerks, micromanagers, and bullies.
New work paradigms
The emergence of new work paradigms emphasises recognising the human element as crucial to employee well-being, motivation, and overall return on investment.
Heartegy Founders Noeli Naima and Micaela Buenemann have personally encountered instances of bad manners during their corporate careers, which nearly led to burnout.
Noeli made the bold decision to step away from her comfortable paycheck and pursue her passion obtaining additional qualifications and experience as a Naturopath specialising in Corporate Yoga Therapy, Aromatherapy, Ayurveda Medicine & Detox, Energy Healing (Vibrational Recalibration), and much more. Prevention and awareness at work about stress levels, work ethics and healthy boundaries aren't yet common sense. She decided to be for others what her corporate work could not be: a safe space.
On the other hand, Micaela Buenemann came dangerously close to quitting and experienced years of near burnout. Working with a holistic coach enabled her to navigate the traumatic experiences, establish healthy boundaries, prioritise her well-being, and ultimately secure a well-deserved promotion to a healthier environment within a newly created department.
Amidst the hardships of the pandemic, Mica decided to seize the opportunity and leave her employer, aligning her career entirely with her purpose during an internal reorganisation.
These transformative journeys were born from their previous exposure to unhealthy work environments, driving them to search for sustainable solutions. Now, they are applying their experiences and expertise to help struggling companies address interpersonal challenges, transforming them into more desirable, thriving, and high-energy workplaces for the benefit of all.
Prominent leaders in New Work strategies
Companies like Google and Mindvalley serve as prominent leaders in this realm, showcasing the significant returns on investment achieved by investing in self-development and employee well-being.
Imagine the positive impact when more individuals eagerly anticipate Mondays, not just Fridays!
Did you know that the most significant expenses for any company stem from its workforce?
Consider how new work paradigms can simultaneously be profitable, empowering, and sustainable.
One of the primary reasons employees become costly is that company cultures often implicitly or explicitly discourage them from expressing their opinions or going beyond their assigned tasks—unless it involves appeasing a manager's or colleague's ego, conforming to toxic narratives that are disconnected from reality on the ground.
Information flows through layers of management, getting distorted and adjusted according to individual needs along the way.
Over her career, Micaela faced criticism for being "too honest" and daring to consider the bigger picture and connections between various aspects, with some managers suggesting it was not her responsibility. Only a few managers understand the value of "complaints" from committed employees who dare to speak up because they genuinely care about improving things for the benefit of all.
When an environment of trust and well-being is fostered, the experience and wisdom of the frontline workforce become invaluable assets that boost company results, driving creative and successful changes over time.
Manpower, the must valuable capital
Human beings should be treated as valuable capital, not mere resources. Investing in employees is the key to creating better present and future generations, with AI innovations taking care of mundane, repetitive tasks that lack the benefits of human interaction.
This is where Heartegy comes in. By partnering with established experts and employing effective methods for gathering insightful data, we begin by uncovering the underlying problems faced by teams, departments, and entire companies, whether locally or globally. From there, we develop situation-specific action plans that prioritise the most significant levers for change and provide the necessary tools to implement and sustain these changes gradually.
Our programs are designed to empower and uplift employees, employing heart-based strategies that foster connection and mutual understanding. Participants gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their colleagues, learning how to leverage their talents to complement one another as they work towards shared goals.
And the best part? We measure the impact of each journey and guarantee a commercial return on investment of at least ten times the client's original investment, in each employee.
Efficient collaboration requires the development of new standards for emotional intelligence. After all, we are behavioural beings, and our natural inclination is to mimic the behaviours exhibited in our environment—whether positive or negative. Thus, cultivating a workplace characterised by trust and lightness becomes paramount for success.
Success is looking forward to monday
We have numerous success stories that prove this transformative journey is possible and necessary to thrive in an ever-changing world as our planet moves towards greater peace, balance, and harmony—a vision shared by many.
Unfortunately, leadership often hesitates to explore their employees' true feelings, thoughts, and challenges. However, taking the time to understand and address these issues elevates individuals and organisations to new levels. Ignoring them, on the other hand, leads to further damage and eventual downfall if left unattended.
Consider the cost of inaction when your corporate culture is unofficially built upon fear and excessive demands. The detrimental consequences are numerous, from working regular overtime to fostering competition instead of collaboration or even working while feeling unwell due to the shame associated with taking sick leave.
Workplace stress and sick leaves
A study conducted in March 2023 revealed that workplace stress costs the US economy an average of $300 billion annually. These costs include absenteeism, diminished productivity, and accidents, contributing to staggering annual healthcare expenses of $190 billion.
Suppose you are a decision-maker within your company. In that case, we invite you to become a creative catalyst, daring to build heart-centred strategies that fuel exponential growth by combining our expertise.
Be the change you want to live as an employee. Bring forth a new legacy within your corporation. Create new work paradigms with the heart at the core of your innovations, when you’ll be forging a desirable workplace and a future where you actually can imagine your youngsters.
We are ready to embark on this journey with you, whenever you are.
