Josh, what led you to the path of breathwork and holistic wellness? Was there a defining moment that changed everything for you?
Absolutely, there was a moment of pure survival that set me on this course. My approach to health had always been holistic, but discovering breathwork in a state of self-preservation took my understanding of healing to an entirely new level. Long story short, I pushed myself too hard, ran my immunity into the ground, and ended up with a severe lung infection.
What followed was six months of dead ends: blood tests, CAT scans, chest X-rays, rounds of antibiotics, and appointments with specialists. My white blood cell count was through the roof, but nothing made sense to them. Eventually, doctors misdiagnosed me intentionally just to close my case, leaving me to figure it out on my own. At first, I was stunned. How could I just be left to fend for myself?
But that shock quickly turned into determination. I refused to accept that this was the end of the road. I worked with my Functional Medicine Doctor and my Naturopath to develop a protocol, and within two months, I completely healed myself. That experience shattered everything I thought I knew about health and self-healing. It showed me the vast gaps in our understanding of the body’s innate ability to recover.
From that moment on, I dove deep into breathwork, studying and practicing relentlessly. What I found was more than just a tool for healing; it was a bridge to resilience, balance, and a completely new way of approaching life.
You’ve built a brand around breathwork, movement, and sustainability. Can you break down what that means to you and how you apply it in your work?
To me, this work is about unlocking the immense, untapped potential within each of us not just to heal but to thrive. Sustainable health and wellness aren’t mysteries; they follow a formula built on key pillars like breath and movement.
My role is to help people discover their own formula for lasting well-being. I don’t deal in fluff or quick fixes I provide real, practical tools that empower individuals on their path to self-discovery and sustainability. At the core of it all, I believe the best way to care for yourself is to truly learn about yourself. When you do that, everything changes.
Many people discover breathwork but struggle to integrate it into daily life. What’s your approach to making it accessible and sustainable?
The first step is to establish functional breathing patterns. This is simple but powerful, and it alone can take you far. From there, the key is awareness and consistency. One of my favorite ways to build awareness is by using an anchor, something like a bracelet, or even painting a nail a different color. The only purpose of that anchor is to remind you to check in with your breath throughout the day.
If you’re ready to go deeper, just three minutes of intentional, functional breathing every morning can start rewiring your system. It’s a simple habit, but the impact compounds over time. Plus, there’s something incredibly grounding about starting your day with nothing but your breath.
You’ve worked with a diverse audience, from high school students to executives. What do you see as the universal challenge people face when it comes to health and wellness?
Trusting our own intuition and having the courage to listen to it, no matter what. Deep down, we often know what’s right for us, but we second-guess ourselves or look for external validation. The world is full of experts and quick fixes, and while guidance can be valuable, too many people end up outsourcing their own wisdom instead of learning to trust it. The real work is remembering how to listen to ourselves again and having the bravery to act on what we know to be true.
Your online community, the Breathe Move Breathe Wellness Collective, is growing fast. What inspired you to create this space, and what do you hope people gain from it?
I wanted to create a space where people could easily access all of my work in one place, be part of a supportive community, and have direct interaction with me. The Collective is more than just content; it’s about building real connections, offering practical tools, and providing an ongoing journey of sustainable wellness. My goal is to grow this into a thriving community where I can dedicate my time fully to sharing meaningful resources, guiding people on their path, and making a lasting impact.
Let’s talk about the science and mysticism of breathwork. How do you balance both in your teachings and why do you think that combination resonates with people?
People are naturally drawn to the mystical side of life because, deep down, we sense that there’s more happening beneath the surface. Breathwork offers a direct connection to that mystery, and it allows us to tap into something beyond the physical. But while mysticism opens the door, science gives us the confidence to walk through it.
I lead with science because it provides a tangible, logical framework for people to trust in breathwork. It’s like a warm, grounding foundation that helps validate what our ancestors have instinctively known for millennia. This approach satisfies the analytical, structured side of the mind, which is the masculine energy that seeks to understand why something works.
On the other hand, the mystical side of breathwork is more fluid, creative, and experiential; it’s the feminine energy of surrender and intuition. By first establishing a scientific foundation, I help break down skepticism, making it easier for people to embrace the more subtle, transformative aspects of breathwork without resistance. It’s not about choosing one over the other; it’s about weaving them together to create a complete and empowering experience.
You’re launching a new course soon, ‘Sustainability: A Masterclass in Not Falling Apart.’ What’s the driving philosophy behind it, and who is it for?
Great question. At its core, this course is built on the belief that we all have the power to take our health into our own hands. It’s designed for those who are ready to take responsibility for their well-being, people who recognize the early warning signs and want to make changes before they hit a breaking point.
It’s also for those who, like me, have reached a dead end with Western medicine. Maybe they’ve been told nothing is wrong, even when they know something is off. Or maybe they’re tired of treating symptoms instead of addressing root causes. This course is for those who want to reclaim control, make sustainable changes, and truly live, not just passively exist, waiting for things to get worse.
In a world full of quick fixes, you emphasize longevity and real-life application. What are some non-negotiable daily habits you practice for your own sustainability?
I love this question because the formula is actually pretty simple! My daily non-negotiables (about 80% of the time because sustainability means flexibility) include:
Breath: Conscious breathing to regulate my nervous system and energy.
Movement: A mix of strength, mobility, and flow to keep my body functional and resilient.
Light manipulation: Getting natural sunlight in the morning and minimizing artificial light at night to support my circadian rhythm.
Hydration: Quality water with minerals to keep my system running optimally.
Real food: Nutrient-dense, whole foods that fuel and heal my body.
And from a mindset perspective, remember there is no rush. Sustainable health isn’t about perfection or urgency; it’s about consistency and honoring what my body needs each day.
Social media has played a big role in growing your influence. How do you approach content creation in a way that feels both authentic and impactful?
Short answer: I’m still learning. This is something that layers over from my own teachings, which is trusting myself. I have fun being creative and reveling in the creation process. I share what I truly believe in: breathwork, movement, sustainability, and the philosophy that health is an ongoing, evolving process.
People resonate with what’s real, and they can feel when someone is just trying to sell them something versus genuinely offering value.
Impact comes from consistency and clarity. For me, success on social media isn’t just about numbers; it’s about building a community that actually benefits from what I share. That’s why I started the Breathe Move Breathe Wellness Collective to create a space where the conversation and the practice continue beyond the feed.
