Were you born to be Athletic? Do you enjoy various Outdoor Activities? To what level would you push your body – Beginner? Intermediate? Advanced?
Questions to contemplate as you continue to read on. In my 40-year career in the Fitness Industry, I have trained clients from all occupations as well fitness and athletic levels.
What really has anchored me in this industry is how I started.
I was quite active from grades 4 – 8, then into High School, I enjoyed playing competitive Volleyball, Baseball, and my favourite was Track and Field 100 metre run. I then took on a part-time job at Catherine’s Lady Fitness when the Aerobic boom took cities by storm in the early 1980’s Teaching 15 classes per week combined with Athletic Competitions, I often wondered where all this energy came from aside from the obvious, I enjoyed eating healthy meals which fed my activity level. Aside from that, I questioned – What is driving me?
“Data collected in 2020 by the National Center for Health Statistics was published in an August 2022 data brief. It showed that only 24.2% of adults over age 18 have met the Physical Activity Guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise.”
Physical Activity is always at the bottom of the list of things to do, at the top of the pyramid stands the desire for money, the desire to succeed and achieve a high level of status. Of course, we all want to succeed in life, in our careers and to leave someting behind for our loved ones. But, at what cost?
The cost of living in deficit of Optimal Health.
The equation between work and work-out is that work takes 90% (sometimes more) of our lifespan than does heading out to a work-out. This equation is out of our control, as we outweigh our cost of living to the cost of actually increasing years to our lifespan, the work out will remain at the bottom of our to do list. We then live in deficit of Optimal Health.
Five tips toward Optimal Health
Time Management - What time of the day is best for you to add in a work-out? Ask yourself - “Do I enjoy early a.m workouts, mid-afternoon, or evening?”
Hire a Personal Trainer with the right credentials to keep you on track and to keep you out of the deficit. This will also keep you accountable to show up to each of your sessions.
Learn to stop and clock out. Over-time is great, it means more money in the bank account. Learn to limit over-time at work to increase more time for you.
Whether it’s going for a walk, run, swim, etc. Gather a group of friends, family and co-workers to enjoy the activity.
Re-train your mind to Self-love, Self-care, Self-respect. Optimal Health will always be and should be at the top of your pyramid.
