The distance between where you are now and where you want to be is just a few smart decisions away, but when you're a new entrepreneur, it's hard to know which decisions are critical, which are important, and which are just a big ol' waste of time and money.
Here's a good rule of thumb: If the time, energy or monetary investment you're thinking about making has the potential to make you a lot of money, then looking into it further or hiring the right person for the job are worth investigating.
Here are some examples of how this might play out.
Investing in a coach who can help you gain clarity, get organized, and get out of your own way.
Whether you seek a business coach or a life coach, the benefits of having a personal confidant who will help lead you on your path toward success are invaluable.
Why hire a coach? Because sometimes we can get so deep into our own process that we lose sight of what's important and need someone else to provide perspective.
The best part about this is that it can pay off big time in the long run. For me, when I was first getting started, it was the difference between $2,000 months and $10,000 months.
Hiring someone to build you a lead generation or sales funnel.
An effective sales funnel is the key to your business's success. There’s a lot of finetuning, testing, and tweaking that goes into the finished product, but it's well worth your investment because it can be the difference between $40,000 per year and $400,000 per year. Here's one example:
Problem: The lead generation and sales funnels I build for my clients earn them hundreds of thousands of dollars, so I know they work—but the funnels I built for my business weren't converting the way I wanted them to.
Why? I knew it wasn't a problem with the structure and flow of the funnel, so I concluded that the problem was with my copy, which was directly related to the lack of clarity I had about my offer.
"When you can identify where the problem is, it will point you to the right solution.”
Solution: I needed to gain clarity about my offer and nail it out of the park with my sales copy, which leads me to my next tip...
Hiring someone to write (or help you write) high converting sales copy.
In my case, I knew that my messaging and content needed some major changes, but I was too busy with the rest of my company to focus on it.
This is when having a coach or hiring help comes in handy!
I put on my coaching hat, hired an amazing copywriter, and gave myself some tough love, which helped me clearly identify the problems at hand. From there, I was able to make intentional choices that helped me 1) focus on what was important, 2) identify the right solutions, and 3) invest in the areas that would move my business forward.
How to find the right solution:
Learn how to identify exactly what's holding your business back.
When you pinpoint the problem ask yourself, "Is this something I can solve on my own?"
Sometimes you have the answers, you just need the time and focus to implement them in a way that gets you results.
Other times, you'll need help—and this is ok!
You don't have to be a master of all things, but to become a successful entrepreneur you have to be able to identify the things that are within your area of expertise and the things that simply aren't.
I know how intimidating it is to make a big investment for your business when you don't have a lot, or any, money coming in. It's downright scary! Truthfully, it's scary even when you DO have money coming in. It's completely natural to question whether or not you should invest, but you shouldn't let this fear stop you from making the right decision, especially if that decision will take your business to the next level.
If I had let my fear of making the wrong decision stop me from investing in the things that would ultimately make my business more successful, I wouldn't be where I am today.
Are you putting off investments that will help your business grow? If you're struggling to get your business off the ground or take it to the next level, it's time to figure out the right next steps!
