It’s a big world out there. There is so much to experience, learn, see, do, and innumerable ways to be in life. What a precious gift to be born a human being. What a special gift to be awake, aware, and fully alive! Or are we?
Where are you being called to be a Yes! in your life right now? I am always amazed at the
innumerable possibilities in life. There is so much to enjoy and experience. Often, as my spouse and I finally make it to bed at night, after taking care of the house, the dishes, paying the bills, lunches for the next day, getting our son to bed, catching up on the last few emails of the evening and saying hello to one another for an hour or so, we look at one another and wonder, “How in the world does anyone have time for TV!?”
Being a Yes! to life means being willing to live beyond your fears, considerations, and what other people might consider reasonable. It is being willed to take risks and follow the flow of life’s unlimited potential. It means that your energy is constantly moving, flowing, open, and receptive. People who are guided by their fears and considerations have a restrictive feeling to their lives. They hold back and are a justification for why things should stay the same. Sameness is the enemy of being a Yes! to life because being a Yes! to life most certainly invites change!
Here is an example of something that happened to me due to being a Yes! to life. I was in my early 20’s, just a year or so out of college and living in Rochester, NY. I had a great job at a well-respected institution and was creating a great career path and reputation. Then one summer, I went on vacation with a group of friends to Cape Cod.
While there, I met a woman who told me about a new division of her company that was being started. We saw that my education and skill set was a good match. She invited me to return to Massachusetts the following week for an interview. I had never been to Massachusetts in my life before that brief vacation on the Cape. But something inside of me said, “Sure!” and off I went the following week to interview for the job. Well, the rest, as they say, is history. I honestly didn’t love the job all that much but stayed on a year or so before leaving to attend Boston College to get my master’s degree and have lived in Massachusetts ever since.
Being a Yes! to life changes you. It opens you up to a world of fantastic possibility and surprise. I like to wake up and say to life, “What do you have in store for me today!?” Because I am confident, whatever it is, I will greet it with a cheerful and faith-filled YES!
