The transition into the Age of Aquarius has captivated humanity’s imagination for centuries, but are we truly there yet? Not quite. We remain in the Age of Pisces, nearing the cusp of the Aquarian Age. This phase is an essential preparation period, offering humanity the opportunity to align with the transformative energies that lie ahead.
While the concept of astrological ages reflects cosmic time, understanding the yuga cycle of India provides a deeper lens into humanity’s spiritual evolution. Together, these systems illustrate the interplay of rising and falling energies over vast spans of time.
What are the yugas?
In Western thought, time is often viewed as linear, progressing from a less evolved past to a more enlightened future. In Indian philosophy, however, time is seen as cyclical, oscillating between phases of spiritual ascension and material decline. This concept is known as the yuga cycle, a 24,000-year process divided into four yugas (ages).
Satya Yuga (Golden Age): The highest and most evolved age, marked by spiritual enlightenment, purity, and harmony with the Divine.
Treta Yuga (Silver Age): A period of slightly diminished spiritual awareness, but still aligned with higher truths.
Dwapara Yuga (Bronze Age): The “Age of Energy,” where humanity explores the material world and begins to transcend it.
Kali Yuga (Iron Age): The darkest age, characterized by materialism, ignorance, and spiritual decay.
Each cycle contains ascending and descending phases, marking humanity’s rise to enlightenment or descent into ignorance. According to Swami Sri Yukteswar, the revered Indian astrologer and spiritual teacher, we are currently in the ascending Dwapara Yuga (1700 AD–4100 AD), where humanity is awakening to the understanding of energy and higher consciousness.
Sri Yukteswar and the wisdom of the yugas
Sri Yukteswar’s book, The Holy Science, provides profound insights into the nature of the yugas and their influence on humanity.
Yukteswar was not just a scholar of cosmic cycles but also a member of the Great White Brotherhood, a group of enlightened beings whose mission is to guide humanity toward self-realization. This group includes divine figures like Paramhansa Yogananda, Mahavatar Babaji, Bhagavan Krishna, Jesus Christ, and Lahiri Mahasaya.
These Great Ones are more than historical figures—they are living presences that assist spiritual seekers. Their energy is sweet, loving, and profoundly protective, as I personally experienced during a pivotal time in my life.
A personal connection to the great white brotherhood
From 2008 to 2012, I worked closely with the energy of the Great White Brotherhood. Their guidance became especially significant when my father was nearing the end of his life. I remember chanting Babaji’s name with all my heart, asking him to help my father’s spirit cross over. It is said that if you call upon Babaji with devotion, he will appear before you. One day, as I left the hospital, Babaji’s radiant presence materialized on the side of the road. His energy was a balm, assuring me that my father was surrounded by divine love and protection.
This experience strengthened my connection to the Brotherhood and affirmed the yugas’ teachings about the ebb and flow of spiritual consciousness. It was during this period that I also studied Hatha Yoga at Kripalu Yoga Center in the Berkshires of Massachusetts,, a journey I felt divinely led to by these beings. Their spirits were with me every step of the way.
Astrological ages and the yuga cycle
While the yugas map humanity’s spiritual evolution over millennia, astrological ages reflect cosmic time through the precession of the equinoxes, a 26,000-year cycle. Each age lasts approximately 2,160 years and is characterized by the qualities of a zodiac sign.
Key Astrological Ages:
Age of Aries (2160 BC–0 AD): An era of individualism, war, and heroism, aligned with the rise of empires and conquest.
Age of Pisces (0 AD–2160 AD): The current age, defined by spirituality, compassion, and mysticism, but also deception and escapism.
Age of Aquarius (2160 AD–4320 AD): A future age centered on innovation, humanitarianism, and collective progress.
We are now at the cusp of Pisces and Aquarius, where the themes of both ages overlap. The Piscean focus on emotional sensitivity and spiritual seeking is blending with Aquarian ideals of innovation, equality, and unity.
Where are we now?
In both frameworks, humanity is undergoing a transitional phase. In the astrological timeline, we are leaving the illusions of Pisces and stepping into Aquarian clarity. In the yuga cycle, the ascending Dwapara Yuga invites us to explore energy, technology, and spiritual autonomy.
The challenges we face today—climate change, social unrest, and rapid technological advancement—are reflections of this shift.
These crises are also opportunities to align with the higher consciousness of the Aquarian Age and the energetic awakening of Dwapara Yuga.
A bridge between ages
As we prepare for the Age of Aquarius and continue ascending through the yuga cycle, humanity is being called to balance material progress with spiritual evolution. The influence of the Great White Brotherhood and cosmic guides reminds us that we are never alone in this journey. Their sweet, protective presence is a beacon for those ready to awaken to the divine within themselves.
The transition is not easy, but it is sacred. How we navigate this cusp period will determine how gracefully we enter the Aquarian Age—a time of unity, innovation, and spiritual enlightenment.
