Dreams have always been a fascinating subject for me. When I was a teenager, I would have memories of dreaming about the day’s events the night before. This would be nothing too exciting, just everyday moments that would occur in my dreams. But I remember thinking, how is this possible?

How did I know who would call today or what would happen at school before it even happened? And if I am honest, it was a bit confusing or even a little scary. I remember having a preconceived notion that this was somehow fortune telling or psychic stuff, which was bad. As I got older, the dreams got even more interesting. So I decided that I had to know what the heck was happening to me in my dream time.

I started on my journey towards understanding my dreams by reading all of the dream books I could find. I even watched tons of documentaries on the subject. Still, I must say, it did not all come together for me until I began to study and understand the subconscious mind and my spiritual connection.

I say spiritual connection because my dreams always had spiritual energy, especially when I prayed the night before.

Finally, I was beginning to understand a deeper and very personal meaning to my dreams. From then on, I would map out a routine every single night before I went to sleep. Sleep became something I looked forward to because the information I would receive in my dreams was incredibly insightful, healing, and just plain magical. Not to say that all of my dreams are magical. I have similar dreams as everyone else, such as nightmares.

By the way, nightmares are not always a bad thing. They are sometimes used as a healing tool from your subconscious mind to vent out old energies, experiences, or belief’s that no longer serve you.

As I learned how to work with my subconscious mind to access guidance in my sleep, my dreams began to take on a whole new meaning.

Side note: Last night, before I went to sleep, I asked for guidance on what topic to write about, and I had a dream that I was writing this exact article that you are reading right now. Before that, I was all over the map in regards to what to write about. I was overthinking and using my conscious and logical mind to try to find inspiration. In fact, that way of thinking often blocks the flow of creative ideas and inspiration to pour through into your conscious awareness.

A Dream that Warned me of a Potential Fire

I would often say an affirmative prayer right before I would fall asleep. The affirmative prayer was as follows. “Dear Infinite intelligence (God), I am so grateful now that I am divinely protected and guided in every possible way, thank you, thank you, thank you.” One night I had a dream that my kitchen was on fire. It was so vivid and real to me that I flew up out of bed at 3:00 am and ran into my kitchen only to find that I had left my tea kettle on all night with no water in it. And from the looks of it, I caught it just in time.

5 Types of Guidance You Can Access in Your Dreams

  1. Healing dreams - When you learn to be specific about what you deposit in your mind right before you drift off into a deep sleep, you can not only access guidance in regards to your healing process, but your subconscious mind will go to work to release energies, limiting beliefs, even trauma so that your body can come back into alignment with a state of wholeness.

  2. Answers to problems or decisions or a warning dream - When you properly request, pray or envision a specific answer to a problem or concern through your dream time, right before you fall asleep, your subconscious mind will go to work to find the answers or solutions to that problem or concern. If you do not receive the answer in the dream, you may receive the answer sometime later through the day as an instant knowing that pops into your mind. This is no coincidence. This is because you are working at a subconscious level to bring you solutions. Regardless if it comes to you in a dream or not, it comes to you because you requested it at a subconscious level.

  3. Brilliant ideas - Do you need an out-of-the-world uniquely inspired idea for a new project, invention, or even a book? A powerful way to do this is to ask a simple question for your subconscious mind to ponder during your sleep time. You want to make sure that you do this right before you go to sleep, and this is the last thought you have before you drift off into the magical world of dream time.

  4. Potential Outcome or Prophetic dreams - Have you ever had a dream that has come true in real life? This would be an example of a prophetic dream. It may be rarer to experience these types of dreams, but they do happen. Don’t focus on receiving a prophetic dream because you have no control over what your subconscious mind will reveal to you when you hand it over with complete faith. Instead, focus on receiving the solution, guidance, or deeper understanding of your problem or concern.

  5. Spiritual Guidance or visit’s from loved one’s on the other side - In my 10 plus years as an intuitive life coach, I have heard countless stories from my clients and friends that have experienced a visitation from a loved one in their dreams. I have personally experienced a visitation from a spiritual guide in my dreams. This kind of dream often comes with a feeling of being very real or life-like. Almost a feeling of waking up and not really knowing if you are still awake or dreaming. This usually occurs right after you have prayed for guidance or asked a loved one to come into your dreams right before you drift off into sleep. Some people may try to explain away these types of dreams as “just a dream.” But what is “just a dream,” anyways? Who’s to say you are not dreaming right now (wink, wink)? Chances are if it feels real to you, that is your first sign that you have just entered into the magical side of the dream world. I say this with confidence because many times, these types of dreams come with information and clarity that you otherwise would not have received in a regular dream.

Something Important to Remember About Your Dreams

Your dreams do not always make sense to your conscious mind. This is because your subconscious mind often uses metaphors and symbols to communicate your conscious mind through your dreams. For example: If you dream about your car breaking down, it does not mean that your car will break down in real life. But, what it could mean and what it has often meant for me is that to move forward, you may need to bring attention to something that is no longer working in your life. Although dream dictionaries and symbols can be fun, it is important to remember that your dreams, symbols, and metaphors are specific to you, so if you don’t know what a dream means, think about the symbols in your dream and contemplate what they mean to you.

To illustrate how to access guidance in your dreams, I have added an excerpt from The Intuitive Life Coaching Oracle, lesson No.47 Universal Mind.

“This card shows up today to assure you that you are getting ready to find the solution to your problem or concern. Because we are all connected to the infinite intelligence of all that is, the solution is always in reach. It is time for you to tap into your subconscious mind, your connection to the universal mind. It could even be considered the same.

Focus on receiving the solutions to your problem versus focusing on the problem itself; focus on your question rather than its answer. The solution that you seek will be revealed when you surrender to the power of your subconscious mind. Use your dream time to help you access the infinite intelligence from within. In your mind’s eye, hold the picture of the perfect solution being revealed to you in divine timing. Continue holding this picture so that it is the last thought before you fall asleep.

Another way to access guidance in your dream time is to say a prayer for guidance. Say this prayer repeatedly as you drift into sleep. You may be surprised to awaken with the answer or solution.

Our consciousness connects directly to the one universal mind, which contains every possibility to every situation. Believe in this and allow it, and you will begin to receive the solutions that you seek.”
