5 Tips For Eating Healthier While On Vacation

Two weeks ago, I spent a relaxing vacation with my family. People believe that while you are on vacation, you can eat unhealthily and not suffer the consequences. People take a trip yearly or twice a year; others do not take one at all. We are eating healthy before we take a trip. Then, we gain the weight back, and we want to diet when we return home. How can you avoid this cycle?

1. Cook your food. If you have a timeshare, your room includes a full kitchen. Some hotels have a kitchen; there is not an oven included. When you cook, you choose the quantity. It is okay to eat out sometimes; you can treat yourself. Sometimes it is the only option while you are out doing activities. You can save money also. For example, a dinner out at a restaurant for a family of four costs $70.00. If you are eating dinner out each night for a week, that is $490, not including breakfast and lunch. You may spend $300 on groceries, especially if you have children with you, but it will last you the entire week.

2. Mindset is important. If you have dietary restrictions due to personal, health, or religious reasons, continue that practice during vacation. Your body will reject foods that are foreign to it.

3. Bring healthy snacks while traveling. This applies if you are driving. Children (and adults) need something to snack on while driving and riding in a vehicle. Nuts and trail mix are good options since they are not perishable.

4. Choose restaurants that offer healthier alternatives. Most restaurants do offer healthy options. While we are driving, we see food options and sometimes gas and food options in the same place. Choose wisely.

5. Detox. It is always beneficial to detox occasionally. We try to eat healthily; however, we may not do that for every meal. Drinking smoothies and reducing if not eliminating meat portions are great ways to detox.
